the overdrive works only after the enable criteria had been met. those are, coolant temperature about 170 degrees fahrenheit or higher, vehicle speed about 32 mph, throttle opening about thirty percent. if one of the values for enable criteria ismissing, the overdrive does not engage even if your O/D button is set to overdrive. overcooled engines never get to overdrive.
