Mga peeps,
Me nagpapatanong sa akin regarding Pajero Automatic, naka turbo-intercooler.

Di ko rin masyado mapaliwanag kasi I'm not familiar with the automatic drives.
Pushbutton ang overdrive ng Pajero. He is supposed to leave it on. Pinapatay lang yun when going up or down steep grades for extended periods.
And when you shift to overdrive, dapat bumaba ang revs mo. Kasi, overdrive is equivalent to the top gear of a manual tranny. (some people actually think that overdrive is a turbo boost thing). So kung ano ang response ng Pajero manual when you shift into 5th, yun din ang response ng Pajero A/T when it goes into OD.
Btw, ako naman ang mawawala sa sibilisasyon for the rest of the week.

Andyan naman si nugundam kapag wala ako.I'm back. Tuesday ulit ang balik ko sa Bulacan.

question lang mga peeps.. is it ok to switch on and off the overdrive for engine braking??
example.. overtake ako, todo gas then pasok uli sa tamang lane then slowdown agad... turn off ko yung O/D.. ramdam na baba ng 3rd gear.... oks lang ba yun??
TIA
It is ok, but the effect will not be that much also. Better use your brakes for slowing down the vehicle. Brake pads are cheaper than if you mess up your tranny (e.g. O/D solenoid).
O/D off is for EXTENDED periods requiring engine braking.

yeah.. di nga din masyado.... naninibago lang kasi ako kasi first A/T ko to... di ako sanay na inaasa lahat sa brakes..
tnx for the info otep! tama, mahirap nang i risk pang masira ang tranny...
another question.. ok lang ba na whenever i want to overtake fast coming from a slow line e i turn-off ko yung O/D then piga up to 80kph then turn on uli?? napansin o kasi mabilis pag ganito e....
di ba makakasama sa tranny?
TIA
Turning off the O/D forces a downshift into third gear. It is not really bad. But that is something the transmission should automatically do once you floor the throttle which activates the kickdown switch. You don't have to switch the O/D off. Just mash the gas pedal into the floor for the kickdown to activate.
Although on some ex-JDM (Subic) vehicles, the converters don't even bother to restore the kickdown switch function as most buyers don't even know it exists.

now that i did'nt know!
probably mine doesnt function... i resort to turning the o/d off to prevent the tranny from shifting to 4th gear too quickly, so i can build up more momentum during tight overtakes...
well, at least i'm not doing any harm after all..tnx otep!
oy baka sumobra sa tulin yang pajero mo hehehe!!!Originally Posted by v22

pero diba mas okey pag ganyang ginagawa mo na pag turn of ng OD kasi you don't have to mash the pedal which would result in better fuel consumption ?
What I mean is i-turn OD to OFF the momment na kelangan mag overtake then back ON again afterwards..?? diba pag OD OFF Third gear agad siya then pag OD ON mo at half throttle balik agad siya ng 4th ?... BTW ang pajero matic ba is 4AT PLUS 1 OD ? or TOTAL of 4speed matic talaga? kasi sabi nila 5speed daw ung matic nila na box type SUBIC pajero? tutoo ba yun?![]()

afaik when overtaking, you don't actually need to turn off o/d, kasi baka mabitin ka pa, lalo na at high speeds where the top gear is needed. :D
and the 5-speed matics na pajero iirc were the gen3s na, invecs-type.
4m41 + 5-speed invecs = t3h w1n. :D
now... is there such a thing as overheating the AT transmission? how do we avoid that? specially when we are climbing up like Baguio?
overheating the a/t, pwede pero that'll mean that there's something bad with the tranny na like bad oil. just make sure that the a/t fluid's in good condition (hindi super itim, no metal shavings which is a bad sign), and you're good to go.
