What could be the problem of an A/T Tranny if the car jerks a little when shifting from park to drive or to reverse etc? (Whenever the tranny is shifted)

    Possible causes :
1.Low level automatic transmission fluid . Check the dipstick.
2.Change due ATF . When did you change your atf ? Get a white tissue paper and let a drop of your atf .If the color turn brown atf should be change. Smell the use atf if smell burnt not good change it.

In my case (97 Accord), medyo mataas yung idling, kaya malakas yung shift shock (1.5k rpm at idle). When I had my mechanic adjust it (~900 rpm), nawala yung jerk everytime I shifted gears from a standstill.

That right when you have a high idling it causes shiftshock. You must have the correct adjustment of your idling.

    aside from the suggestions stated

have you tried pressing the brake pedal a bit deeper (to make sure you are in full stop) before shifting from park to drive or to reverse?

since P and R gears requires you to press the brakes before engaging them.

Gaano po ba kalakas ang jerk because it's normal for an A/T vehicle to jerk a little when shifting from P to R or D and vice versa.

Aside from the above advices given I suggest you to take a look at your engine and transmission mounts just to make sure.

in my case, a honda lxi '96*, even if I press the brake pedal fully, it still jerks..what could be the cause of this? common na sakit ba to ng A/T?
btw it doesn't require to press the brakes to shift from P to R..

    Edit: *Honda Civic LXi '96

So it does not require you to press the brakes...... mine does, and I think you should make it a habit since you should be at full stop when you shift to reverse since it will stress out your forward gears (D).

try having your kickdown cable checked or adjusted.

a good conditioned AT tranny should not be jerk or at least you should not feel it.

lets wait for the gurus to shed some light.

ha, hindi kelangan apakan ang brake pag shift from park to reverse? kasi sa pajero, at most a/t cars, kelangan apakan ang brake pag magshishift ka. pag hindi mo inapakan, hindi mo mapipindot ang shifter. pero reverse to neutral to drive, kahit hindi mo na pindutin. pero kelangan pa rin na apakan mo ang brake para minimized ang shift shock.

mukhang nasabi na ng marami ang dapat mong gawin sa tranny mo. tip lang sir, use a dexron III atf para mas maganda. as much as possible, don't buy dual purpose atf, yun pwede sa power steering. dapat pure atf lang ang gamitin mo at para sa power steering, yun power steering dapat ang gamitin, hindi atf

    chikselog,
most of the makes and brands i have driven(not driven all of them yet), there is always a shift shock except for 2009 bmw's with tiptronic transmission and 2009 audis. toyota themselves, has their own version of reducing this shift shock by engaging D2 from N first, and then to D1, D2, D3, torque converter lockup and O/D. toyota calls this anti-squat control. the common causes for harsh engagement aside from normal are: broken or hardened engine or transmission mounts, broken engine strut mount(traverse engines FF configuration), too high idle speed, too much slack in the drive axles, too much backlash in the differential gears, governor pressure too high or accumulator springs broken or collapsed, and of course, normal wear and tear. they have to break or we don't buy new cars, the car companies go bankrupt(just like the de soto car company). have your governor and line pressures checked.
