The MRT should not be subsidized and needs to be priced for reasonable profit. This ensures those who can use can afford the fair fare, ie your job commands reasonable salary for you to afford the MRT comfortably. Kasi ngayon pati karpintero dito sumasakay dahil mas mura siya sa bus at jeep. Yung executives bringing in more money to the country, like call center agents, are competing with those who brings in much less.
The last transportation alternative would be the bus and jeepneys, their fare should be significantly less than the MRT.
So in the end, those who are making lots of money can travel via cars, at a premium. Those who find paying the ERP too expensive can take the MRT, whose fare is corrected to ensure it's profitable. The passenger count should go down with the new unsubsidized fare. The rest can take the bus and jeepneys.
