[Admin 14] I-ACT To Strictly Enforce Motorcycle Lane Policy Starting Monday
As one of the initiatives of the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) to improve traffic condition in the metropolis, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will strictly enforce the motorcycle lane policy along EDSA, C-5, Macapagal Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue starting Monday next week, November 14.
Prior to its stringent implementation of the use of the motorcycle lane along the said thoroughfares, the agency, along with members of the Motorcycle Philippines Federation (MCPF), will conduct trial runs on Saturday and Sunday to familiarize and orient all motorcycle riders on the policy.
Aside from the educating and instilling road discipline among motorcyclists, MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said strictly enforcing the motorcycle lane will ease the traffic situation on the roads and reduce the number of fatal accidents involving the motorbikes.
“Our objective here is not only to move people faster but also make sure they reach their destinations safely,” Orbos said.
Data shows that out of the 265 vehicular accidents daily in Metro Manila, 30 involve motorcycle riders.
Based on the Road Crash Statistical Report from January to April 2016, a total of 7,033 motorcycle accidents were recorded.
Out of the number of motorcycle-related mishaps, 82 cases were fatal, according to the report.
In 2015, MMDA recorded a total of 18,668 motorcycle-related accidents in the metropolis, 238 of which resulted to deaths.
During the dry run this weekend, MMDA personnel will be checking motorcycle riders’ proper attire, such as crash helmet, long pants, and shoes; and the mandatory switching on of headlights even during daytime.
They will also be flagging down motorcycles which do not have signal lights and side-mirrors.
Orbos met this afternoon with the MCPF officers and members who discussed and imparted to the agency some proposals to ease the traffic condition in Metro Manila.
During the meeting, the MMDA official approved the motorcycle riders’ group suggestion of conducting a seminar to motorcyclists on road safety and traffic rules and regulations.Last edited by Monseratto; November 10th, 2016 at 06:45 PM.

Di banned ang motorcycle sa EDSA as some media outlet suggested... Pero tuloy sa Monday ang strict motorcycle lane. How they'll go after those violators is another thing.

December 19th, 2016 09:50 AM #26Hindi ko ito maramdaman. Kaliwa't kanan parin kahit saang lane ako, may nakakasabay akong motor.
Bomalabs pa yung bagong rule na Motorcycle headlights MUST BE ON AT ALL TIMES.
