I have heard that the MMDA & LTO might be stopping cars starting today to check the type of freon you are using in your car's aircon system if you have a model 1998 or older car.

Just a warning to other motorists out there.

below 98 is still greater in number than 98-up cars....anu ba naman racket yan. kung leak-less naman ang a/c system it will not pose a threat.//

it might not leak now but it will leak sometime. example is when your a/c compressor starts to go bad or when the car is eventually scrapped or totaled in an accident.

nope. they will not taste it...
they will open the aircon/freon valve where they usually put freon it, insert two straws and put the other end of the straw inside their nostrils.

    back to the question...

mine is ok.... im using a 2k model.

if your car's refrigerant was r-12 and had not gone through conversion, most likely it is still using r-12. r-134a is the recommended replacement for r-12

R11 and R12 are banned along with some other types of refrigirant. R134a is the acceptable freon.

As for stoping 98 and older cars, they are just going to give the corrupt a new source of income. They should just enforce this during registration of the car. It might not prevent graft but at least you don't have people flagging down cars and creating traffic jams.
