A government official (I think) mentioned on TV that they are proposing to the LTO to make dash cams a requirement when registering a vehicle (the interview was related to the adventure and motorcycle recent accident)

I want a dash cam for myself and I'd be forced to spend on one if this is implemented. I've been postponing my purchase since I find the entry USD80-100 price expensive. I don't wanna buy a cam that is cheap since my car has dark tint.

I wonder if they can implement this with PUVs such as Jeepneys and motorcycles (helmet cam), And how will private vehicle owners react.

ok sana, kaso practicality mahirap implement yan. gagawin lang ng jeepney drivers eh magkakabit ng dashcam pag magrerehistro na, or pag mahuhuli na. at i bet most of the time eh hindi nagrerecord ang mga dashcam nila. at sana wag lang maging money making scheme ito.

dapat eh yung gusto talaga magkabit ng motorist ng dashcam at hindi yung mapipilitan lang. how about government subsidizing sa presyo ng dashcam para ma-engganyo ang karamihan magkabit.

If they're going to implement anything mandatory, I would hope that all license renewal are required to retake exams, road rules and practical exam, and revoke the license if you fail.

For what ? Another stupid goverment official recommendation. My recommendation is fire that goverment official as likelihood he/she has connection with dash cam supplier.

Given how cheap dashcams are nowadays, not difficult to implement. You can buy a POS dashcam for just 1.5k.

If they don't keep them on, their problem... if you have no dashcam recording of any incident you're involved in, that can be added as a violation on your part, to the tune of another 2k.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Rather than pass this on to the consumers, why not make this a mandatory feature for all vehicles and make this a built in part of the vehicle's safety system.

Sure, the cost will be passed on in the vehicle retail price but the economies of scale will make the cost of an individual dash cam far more cheaper than if the consumers will buy this directly.

Even MB is toying with, or already has some built in, cam/FLIR system for their vehicles already. Other vehicles have all around cams already to assist in parking.

+1. 1.5k cheapest ngayon. Kung mapatupad to, baka bumaba pa presyo dahil sa volume ng bibili ng dashcam.

And i agree iba ang galaw pag alam na may camera. Lalo na mga kotong cops

Impossible to have a monopoly. There are so many suppliers and so many multiple avenues for importation that you can always get the same thing cheaper if you hunt around.

They might be able to word the regulations so that they can exclude the cheap-ass cameras... but it will be difficult to create an exclusive regulation set that favors only one supplier.

They could make business selling dashcams outside the LTO offices, but you can't sell them inside.

Feature bloat. A dashcam installed as standard equipment means they'll charge you for the cam and then charge you for the warranty and whatever add-on value... but it's definitely possible.

Yung nabili ko nga less than P1k (after discounts sa Lazada). And yes it saved me from a possible kotong incident.

How can the LTO compel jeepney drivers to use dashcams that will draw power from their jeepney batteries? These drivers don't even switch on their headlamps at night.

Reality check: P1T - P1.5T is not cheap for the public utility driver. Sa mga Tsikoteers dito, yakang yaka yan.

Operators perhaps but again, they will pass this cost on to their drivers/lessees in terms of higher boundary rates.

    gumagamit na ko.

More than a year ko na ginagamit SJ4K ko, as helmet cam pag nakamotor ako at as dashcam pag sasakyan gamit ko.

i would agree on this. kaya nga lang may enforcement and compliance loopholes lalo na sa mga PUVs.
