    Hey there steak_sauce,

    That really sucks.

As mentioned above, while the fines are OK, you still need honest and competent enforces for the system to work.

You already experienced what happens when the system is enforced but enforced by crooks and morons.

I'm sure that PUVs already prepaid their dues to escape these fines and crooks which leaves us private vehicles to be wary of them. And since they want to show that they are "doing" their jobs, they will take out their quotas and apprehensions out on private vehicles

Changing the system is not enough, changing the bad elements are also a must for things to move forward.

- GMANews.TV
    PISTON di sasali...

Piston won’t join transport strike, will exhaust ‘legal’ options first

MANILA, Philippines – Militant transport group Piston on Thursday said it will not join a strike planned by another group on Friday to denounce the “excessive" hike for traffic violation penalties.

Piston secretary-general George San Mateo said while the group shares the stand of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Operators (ACTO), resorting to a strike at this time is premature.

“Hindi namin suportado iyon at hindi kami lalahok sa welga [we are neither supporting nor joining the strike]," San Mateo said, adding that his group would first try to resolve the matter and raise their concerns through the “regular process."

Piston and ACTO were among the first transport groups to air objection over a recent order penalizing among other the non-wearing of shoes while on the job. drivers would be penalized with a P1,000 fine for the first offense; a P1,500 fine and two-month suspension of license for second offense; and a P2,000 fine and a six-month suspension of license for the third.

San Mateo said that the Piston would be submitting before the Department of Transportation and Communication the transport group’s position paper and petition – signed by all drivers and operators – against DOTC Order 2008-039.

He added that while his group would not be joining ACTO’s transport strike, the two groups are one in denouncing the excessive penalties for traffic violation, saying their grievances are “valid."

Even without Piston’s participation at Friday’s strike, San Mateo still vowed to carry out “genuine nationwide transport strikes sa hinaharap [in the future]."

the intent may be noble, but we all know where this is going.
