Lane 1 (outermost lane): Walk lane

    Lane 2: Bike lane

    Lane 3: City buses

First 3 lanes pa lang may problema na.

Paano ang loading at unloading ng mga city buses?

    a. City bus will move to Lane 2? -- Very dangerous for bikers so bikers will then move to Lane 1 to avoid the buses. --- SCHEME FAILS!!!
    b. City bus will move to Lane 1? -- Again, at risk ang mga bikers and also pedestrians. There will also be a disruption to the flow of pedestrian and biker traffic --- SCHEME FAILS!!!
    c. City bus will stop at Lane 3? -- ALL LANES WILL BE AFFECTED!!! Siyempre yung bus na nasa likod ng loading/unloading bus will switch to Lane 4 to overtake which will disrupt the flow of traffic of both Lane 4 and 5!!!! ---- SCHEME FAILS!!!!!

MMDA studying proposal for 2 non-motorized EDSA lanes
By VICTORIA TULAD, GMA News June 22, 2015 8:52pm

Would you still drive on EDSA if private vehicles could only use two of the five lanes?

This is the scheme the group Bayanihan sa Daan Movement wants to implement on Sunday, June 28, if it is approved by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Under the proposal, the rightmost lane would be allotted to pedestrians. The lane next to it would be used by bicycles, while the third and fourth lanes will be used by city and provincial buses. Private cars will only be allowed in the two leftmost lanes, while motorcycle riders will only be allowed in the fifth lane.

Bayanihan sa Daan Movement's proposed scheme for EDSA.

This "EDSA Evolution" plan by the Bayanihan sa Daan Movement aims to decrease pollution and traffic on EDSA by decreasng the number of cars on the road.

"Less than one percent of the population have private cars. Is that right? Less than 1% of the people occupying 99.9% of the road? We encourage people to walk," said Bayanihan sa Daan Movement spokesperson Antonio Oposa, Jr. during a press conference at the MMDA main office.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said he welcomed any suggestion that would ease the congestion in EDSA. However, he said, he still needs to study the proposal.

"Let us first see what would happen," said Tolentino. "Let us also consider the response of the public."

Some commuters have already weighed in on the scheme, saying that they believe it will only cause traffic to worsen. Others, on the other hand, wanted to give it a try.

If the project is approved, the re-assignment of lanes on June 28 would start at 12:01 a.m. and end at 11:59 p.m. As an initial attempt, the EDSA Evolution would begin from EDSA Taft to Ortigas northbound, and from Ortigas to Taft in the southbound direction.

If they are allowed to implement the trial run and it is successful, said Oposa, the scheme could be done every Sunday and even on weekdays. — BM, GMA News

This might work if we have disciplined public and private drivers. But given the lack of it, I am not surprised with the negative impression this proposal is getting.

Yang mga suggestions mo? Easier said than done. Obviously yan ang kailangan natin. Since iba ang proseso ng gobyerno natin kaya kung ano anong brilliant ideas ang ineentertain nila.

You are right sir, its Easier said than done. Dahil ang iniisip nila kung pano sila iboboto at mag karoon ng pondo sa sunod na election. To do things right it needs political will.

Did they ever think of constructing a central terminal for public transport at some major areas away from EDSA, where bus, taxi, etc can load and unload commuters? It can solve some issues, it will remove congestion of busses along EDSA, as well as commuters waiting for their rides pati na rin mga nag titinda sa gilid ng highway. I guess there will be a smooth flow of traffic.

But then it will requires throrough urban planning and a lot of funds which they will not dare to spend.

    Just an opinion.

afaik LRT has 107 running coaches. dont know if combined LRT 1 & 2 na yan pero it overwhelms the MRT's lineup. nu meron sa MRT?
