Battle over BF gates sizzles anew

THE tiff between the Parañaque City government and the BF Homes Association still rages after Mayor Florencio Bernabe pushed for the opening of the subdivision's gates in Muntinlupa City.

Bernabe, in a letter to Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, said his move was in reaction to complaints that Tirona Street is being used as a two-way access road for residents living in Parañaque and Alabang, Muntinlupa.

Celso Reyes, president of the United BF Homeowners Association Inc., described Bernabe's action as an insensitive move.

"The Parañaque mayor ignores the rising incidents of crime against person and property and the daily horrendous traffic jams and clamor of the residents for the closure of the subdivision's main gates," he said.

Reyes claimed that after the main gates of UBFHAI opened to motorists, crime incidents increased.

The gate on Tirona Street, it was learned, is under the control of UBFHAI.

Bernabe said UBFHAI remained to be an umbrella organization of 71 enclaves in the subdivision that runs from the cities of Paranaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa.

Earlier, the city government of Parañaque took control of the gates on El Grande and Aguirre streets, a move strongly opposed by UBFHAI officials.

Bernabe had instructed Senior Supt. Ronald Estilles, Parañaque police chief, to effect the takeover based on City Ordinance No. 00-15 Series of 2000 in August last year.

Until now the city government is manning the gates, but UBFHAI officials are doing everything to regain control over it.

Bernabe said the city took control of the gates after he received complaints from homeowners that they are being asked excessive fees and subjected to harassment and high-handedness of UBFHAI officials

Ahh... the pissing contest continues. What I've always wondered, though, is who built the roads? If they're national roads, then there should be no issue, but if they were built as part of the development, the municipal government should be paying BF for their use, right?

UBFHAI officials should also pay for the property tax of the roads, to the municipal govt. if they really want to become independent. usually, yan ang legal manuevering na ginagawa ng munisipyo to have a reason to take over it.

I was there last Saturday. sa tingin ko talaga hati ang homeowners dyan, perhaps bec. some homeowners opened a business or owned a residential turned commercial lot.

but overall, yan disunity nila ang nag place sa kanila sa ganyan position. close to chaos papasok sa BF or even sa Tahanan from Sucat Road. If I live there, mag-iisip isip na ako humanap ng ibang tirahan. that road will only get worse ...
