1. Aquino thanked PM Trudeau for making the Philippines a “Country of Focus” or one of the 25 countries that will receive 90% of Canada’s bilateral Official Development Assistance. Canada’s international aid program is tasked to “reduce extreme poverty, create environments conducive to long-term prosperity and security.” PM Trudeau also informed the public that he is keen on finding a solution for the trash debacle.
2. Chile & the Philippines signed a memorandum of understanding on disaster risk reduction and management and a letter of intent for a joint study for free trade between Chile and the Philippines.
3. Mexico & the Philippines sign high level agreements on trade, citing the Acapulco - Manila galleon trade during the Spanish era. Tourism and collaboration in the fight against illegal drugs were also included.
4. The Philippines & Papua New Guinea vowed to strengthen overall bilateral ties, particularly on improving trade, and cooperation in combating climate change. Papua New Guinea's President personally thanked the contribution of Filipino teachers teaching in Papua Guinea and rice exports of the Philippines to their country.
5. The Agreement on the Establishment of a Philippines - Russia Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation aims to identify measures to facilitate the flow of bilateral trade and investments. Russian PM Medvedev told Aquino they want “open avenues for military and defense cooperation."
6. Philippines & Vietnam signed an agreement establishing a strategic defense and maritime partnership between the two countries and vowed to help one another over the Spratlys.
7. US President Barack Obama: "The United States has been committed to the security of this region for more than 70 years, we have a treaty obligation, an ironclad commitment, to the defense of our ally the Philippines, who can count on the United States." Pres. Obama also pledges two more naval warships to be given to the Philippines next year.
8. Colombia & the Philippines signed agreements to increase bilateral trade relations.
9. Australia & the Philippines signed the Joint Declaration on Phil-Australia Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement. Australia is also planning to give additional defense and disaster response equipment to the Philippines on top of the 2 LCH ships that were donated and were already in service to the Philippine Navy.
10. South Korea & the Philippines vow to improve bilateral trade & security arrangements and increase both countries defense related agreements which will pave the way for more defense equipment. South Korea will be the one supplying the Philippine Air Force's fighter-trainer jets. Pres. Park Geun-hye also noted that the Philippines is a top tourist destination for Koreans.
11. Japan announces that it is lending the Philippines Php 93.46 Billion for a North - South Commuter Railway connecting Tutuban,Manila to Malolos,Bulacan. Japan & the Philippines, for the first time signed defense related agreements that will provide the Philippines of excess military equipment from Japan and Pres. Aquino personally requested large patrol vessels to the Philippine Coast Guard. Japan announced it will accept domestic household workers into 3 prefectures/provinces. Under JPEPA, Japan is already accepting Filipino nurses. Japan has also announced it shall provide ¥ 15 Billion for agricultural development in Mindanao.
12. The Philippines & New Zealand want to expand their sphere of economic cooperation in various areas, including infrastructure and public-private partnership projects.
13. Taiwan & the Philippines concluded the Agreement Concerning the Facilitation of Cooperation on Law Enforcement in Fisheries.
14. The next APEC summit for the Philippines will happen in 20 years time.
