Kagaya nga open question that I posted earlier. I'm fairly certain a majority of them actually make more than your typical mid-level office employee. Hindi yan mga subsistence level ang income.

Not poor ang income. Poor life choices, yes.

Imagine having 7-8 kids, may bisyo pa minsan, and a devil may care (bahala na) attitude about the future. And they grumble how they can't seem to make ends meet on what they make...

Then they love to play the so called "poverty trump card" when convenient, and expect the government and the rest of the taxpayers to shoulder the burden. Teka, they don't even pay (direct) taxes right?

I agree, but I don't blame it all on them because they are uneducated. Like most people in social class D and E, they missed out or were deprived of opportunities by choice or by chance or both. So their lifestyle, their taste of TV shows, their financial mismanagement, those come with the territory. I don't look down on them and think better of myself just because another is a fan of aldub, or tulfo (hi kags).

Meanwhile their children who are able to finish school do break out of this cycle and directly contribute to society, like you and I.

The way I see it is the issue is not the modernization per se at all but the 1.6M price of a new unit. Can they not have an alternative at, say, 1M?

Big car manufacturers are able to sell a feature-packed pick-up truck at less than 1M, I'm sure if they tried they can produce a mass-transport safe vehicle for the same price, given the bare essentials/requirements? I suppose the government would not tax (and excise tax) these, right?

    ?

may built-in CCTV, Swipe or tap card system and also WIFI kasi ang modernized jeeps so that adds to the cost.

so what is the purpose of the CCTV? for law enforcement obviously.
what is the purpose of wifi and beep card? cashless fare system, di na titigil si manong driver magbilang ng sukli, so larga na, less stop on the road and data on balance on every card as well as the jeep sa remote main server

and then also required ang driver bay na may built in radio cb radio and antenna, in case of reporting emergencies or other purposes as well as checking in to the coop. The COOP will provide the parking lot for the jeeps, say a group of 200 will park on this designated lot, then another 200 on another lot with dispatchers and everything

and last but not the least, every modernized jeep is customized with a PWD loading system of some sort, pang wheel chair or for those who can't climb the stairs like pregnant women, seniors, sick people etc

    yeah, thanks you hihi

nagtataka nga ako eh wala naman ako plano mamasada sa future and yet I read the entire circular on the PUV modernisation program,

and then makakabasa lang ako ng mga tweets or social media posts na mga halata naman hinde nagbabasa, they are quick to empathise on the plight of these drivers, eh para sa nga sa pamilya nila or sa future ng iba't ibang pamilya ang in-address PUV modernisation program. for example, your child who is commuting, or your grandpa, senior mother, disabled friend or whoever.

these drivers, they didn't even bother to read and internalise the benefits. basta para sa kanila, walang puhunan, pero kabig sa kita. walang accountability sa roads, other motorists or even the commuters themselves. basta ganun na, same as before, rolling steel jeep na walang regular maintenance ganun. ganun may forever

nope exempted ang 20K below diba? so no need to file income taxes. that is assuming they are earning 20k below

eh every time I watch gadget addict videos or nebrija videos, may mga edsa bus drivers admitting to earning as much as 3k a day, tapos pag sobra traffic Baka 1,500 lang daw ang kita nila after boundary, so 1,500 x6 days a week x 4 weeks = P36,000 na yan. Pero I doubt if they declare that

the key is in the minimum fare eh, na onti-onti pinatataas , tingin ko andun ang magic

be aware that many of these PU drivers do not work the regular hours that many office workers do.
malaki nga ang kita. but a number of them share the vehicle with two or three other drivers.
    they don't go out everyday.

I agree with the coop style coop model but again not with the price, I'm sure there's a wiggle room there somewhere that they can negotiate if they are willing.

Lofty ideals on the car features but would not work in all of the country anytime soon unless they do plan on handing it over to mega corporations or (wink wink) the chinese.

By the way, the last time I was in Boracay in June, the e-trike driver said that most of the units operated there are owned by chinese businessmen, with franchises costing 500k each and the e-trike itself costing another 500k.

I can't help but think that this PUV modernization program is another money making scheme of this administration.

From what I've gathered -- new units cost anywhere from 1.4M - 2.5M. Government is offering a 5-6-7 scheme -- 5% DP, 6% interest, 7 years to pay -- thru landbank, I assume? Anyone can apply and be approved for the loan?

And then there was a sample amortization of 45,000 pesos per month for 7 years. So 45,000 pesos x 12 months x 7 years = 3.78 M, that's on top of the 5% DP, right, which could be anywhere from 70,000 to 125,000? So total cost of the car + interest after 7 years + DP will be anywhere from 3.85M to to almost 3.9M?

Then you have maintenance expenses + gasoline expenses + driver's salary. And missed days due to UVVRP. Did I miss anything?

Anyone here did the math on this new business model? Or anyone care to do the math? Is it really feasible to still earn at 9 pesos fare because I heard on the flipside, passengers don't want fares to be increased.

Please, if some kind sir can enlighten me on the profitability of this new model.
