try mo cruising at 60km/h just make sure no car is following you. step on the brakes normally, put the tranny in N and you will feel the true stopping power of the brakes.

I think all of us here agree that the fortuner brakes are weak. The facts adverted hereto are based on two points. First, you cant blame the fortuner brakes in case an accident occured for it is upon the driver's discretion on how he assess the fortuner's capabilities in deceleration, acceleration and maneuverability with emphasis stressed on its braking capabilities. Second, although the driver may be well aware of the fortuner's capabilities we cannot erase the fact that a driver cannot go beyond the same especially when he faces an emergency situation where the driver badly needs to exceed its fundamental characteristics.
IMO, we just have to live with this fact and brake earlier or be more cautious than what you have been habitually doing in other vehicles. Thus, if you feel that your rights have been prejudiced by Toyota I strongly suggest that you undertake the necessary preferential actions against the latter to protect the same like what that thailander aforstated in the previous posts(tama ba?) has done. Otherwise, the fortuner brakes will be unchanged or remain the same.Last edited by usokpower; April 1st, 2007 at 11:01 PM.

I just would like to put "weak" on the proper context.
When we say "weak", we should say weak compared to what? In my case, weak when compared to the other SUVs I've driven (page 152 of this thread). If you want to know, these are the Pajero and the Prado.
Guys, let's not generalize "weak".
With regard to The BEISSBARTH BRAKE TEST on the Fortuner, this has been circulating around in several forums for more that a year now.
If you do a search on Yahoo! or Google, you'll find out that this warning has been repeated over and over again, just like a chain letter....and by only 1 person, "thaifortuneruser, www.pantip.com/cafe/ratchada".
We should always be wary on what is written over the internet (newspapers, and magazines too). Just what kind of credibility does "thaifortuneruser" have? Also, do we honestly understand what these figures means?
Unless I get some results from a well-established/well-known testing centers, (and I say centers, with a letter "s"), I wouldn't worry about my Fortuner's brake.

^brembo? for a Fortuner, you got to to be kidding right?
Someone in Thailand did install Brembo's on their Fortuner, but that was for aesthetic purposes, AFAIK. Its also bec. he swapped his 3.0 D-4D for a new and very powerful engine (which I forget already).

the front brakes of the fortuner has already a 4-pot caliper, this design is like the other high end brakes out there. I guess the best bet is to change to slotted or cross drilled discs and high performance brake pads, add mo na lang ang better brake fluid.

Got my new toy (fortuner) last March 15 and I am happy with my toy.
