No sales halt yet for Toyota cars in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines - Toyota Motor Corp. is still assessing the need to suspend car sales in other countries including the Philippines, following the sales halt of 8 models in the United States due to an accelerator problem.

But Toyota Philippines, the local unit of the Japanese auto giant, assured that they will let their customers know once the results of the investigation are out.

"We are waiting for information from Toyota Motor Corp., our parent company. They're still undergoing an investigation. So far, only the United States is affected," Toyota Philippines public relations officer Elijah Marcial told abs-cbnNEWS.com in a phone interview on Wednesday.

Asked when the Japanese auto giant's investigation will be over, Marcial said: "We can't say at the moment. But it should be long and thorough."

Marcial advised customers to talk to their dealers if they have questions or concerns about cars that they have recently purchased. They can also call Toyota Philippines' customer service hotline at 819-2912.

She said Toyota repairs or replaces cars, depending on the extent of the damage, after a thorough investigation by its dealers.

Analysts have noted that Toyota's safety issues may have a long-term impact on the credibility of the Japanese auto giant.

"Toyota needed to send a clear message that they care more about their customers than monthly profits," Edmunds.com chief executive Jeremy Anwyl told Agence France-Presse.

Earlier this week, Toyota said the recall over the accelerator problem might spread to Europe. --Karen Flores, abs-cbnNEWS.com, with a report from Agence France-Presse

The accelerator problem is isolated to US Toyotas. Its a return spring made in CANADA that is the culprit of the problem.

P-R-N-D ang arrangement sa automatic transmission... so if nasa "D" or "R" ka, you can immediately shift it to "N" without pressing the brake...

buti nalang isolated sa US sold models lang ito. pag nagkataon na worldwide, naku! patay ang Toyota sa kakarecall ng mga sasakyan. grabe na talaga ang losses nila pag nagkataon.

The US is still their #1 market. Dyan pa lang malaki na losses nila not just monetary but huge losses in consumer trust. Camry is their best selling model over there and its included in the recall... The competition should take advantage of this and pound Toyota while they are down.

Tiyak apektado nito ang resale value ng Corolla.

At hindi aamin ang Toyota Philippines na palpak ang Corolla nila. It will be a business suicide.

Let's wait and see this unfolding situation.

Ingat sa pagbili ng sasakyan. (Lalo na pag Toyota)
