Maybe thats the prius that bigbigcar.com tested ( correct me if im wrong niky )

Because on what I saw at their site, they tested a gen 2 prius, silver color and with Z starting plates.

EDIT: Are you sure that it's ZGY? I`ve checked bigbigcar.com`s site and the plate was ZGD-***

Here are the pics of the said prius: c/o of bigbigcar.com

I have a bit of a background on cO2 emissions and I'm still having a hard time believing that the Prius is actually environmentally friendly. First of all it still runs on petrol which doesnt eliminate the fact that it still produces carbon. The car might obtain additional charge from regenerated energy but there isn't a significant difference between the prius and other economical cars.

Bottom line is, less gas, more miles. It's as simple as that.

Second, the manufacturing of the battery itself needs a lot of energy which in turn also produces carbon emissions by the factory in japan.
Remember you have to replace this battery after a few years since the lithium ion battery still isnt that advanced to have a very long life.

For the price, you are shelling out 2 million pesos for a car. This isn't the end. The battery needs to be replaced which if I read correctly before costs $4,000-5,000. Not only that, it would be nearly impossible to get parts for the hybrid engine and a mechanic who knows how to tweak the hybrid engine, let alone the electric motor.

I'm not saying we must stay on gas cars. I'm an avid environmentalist and I believe that something must be changed but current technology in automobiles just isn't advanced enough to create a BIG impact on c02 emissions.

Although I applaud toyota for a good start, unless the company can make a

    1. hydrogen car

although remember that making the hydrogen gas also needs a lot of energy, not to mention high costs. Energy companies need to think of a way to reduce costs of making renewable energy.

    2. electric cars

zero emission cars, but remember where you get your electricity from. Chances are it comes from coal plants which produces more c02 emissions than petrol

Hmm baka doable ang hybrid since parang nakaoff ang makina pag traffic diba? so in our roads, off sya almost all the time hehehe... but for the price, novelty item lang dito... Although folks who have money that bought Khaos would probably get it...

Speaking of which, ano nanaman kaya "inherent defect" na hihirit ng Khaos sa hybrids hehehe.

the problem with the prius is that... kapag nag off ang makina, off rin ang aircon. dehins pwede yan dito. nakakabit pa kasi sa gas engine yung aircon.

although sa hybrid na highlander, hindi na ganito since electric motors na ang gamit ng aircon.

unless you're a tree hugger, the added cost is not worth it

Kapag naka-off ang makina ay tuloy pa rin ang aircon using the battery supply kapag traffic. The combustion engine will automatically turn on once the lower limit battery supply had been reached.

my brother mentioned that he inquired at Toyota regarding the SRP of the Prius. He got P1.9M for the Toyota Prius gen2.

Hmmm for that same P1.9M ... I would rather get a Toyota Camry 2.4L or even the next model Corolla 1.8 (2.0L??) or even Honda Civic 2.0L and use the rest of the money as gasoline money.

imo, di naman tayo makakakuha ng mileage tulad ng USDM cars eh, there are alot of factors like road condition, traffic etc. that will play a role in getting a high mileage... so why the need for hybrids? aside from sacrifice in performance, it will also take a toll on your pocket (very expensive imo).

tama ka kapatid, kailangan mag drive ng at least 30,000miles a year or price of gas goes up to $5.00/gal para mapabilis ang pagbawi ng added money spent on a hybrid.

In my corolla gli, I was able to get a bit over 13km/L fuel milage but that was pure highway driving (manila to subic and back) and I was driving very light footed. I could only manage half of that (at best) in normal city driving conditions.

actually from that I have read online, you can extend nearly any hybrid's fuel milage simply by adding more batteries so the car can operated longer & further on pure battery power. Of course adding more batteries will cost you a bit more too.

sana gawin government yung importation tax free nlang para mura yung value nung car at less na rin nalang nila yung acquisition tax, para makatulong government sa energy conservation... hehehe! pati yung mga 1.3 bellow cars wag na nila lagyan tax.
