Good evening sa mga Avanza owners. New sa thread na ito and I joined kasi I need help in figuring out how to properly drive an Automatic Avanza. My 62 year old mom got her 1.3 AT Avanza last week and since manual drivers talaga kami, medyo nangangapa pa kami. This is her 2nd Avanza, we still have the 2008 manual one and ako naman 2015 Vios.

Ang question ko is, ano ba ang tamang gear na dapat gamitin kapag paandar palang or coming from a full stop ang kotse? Should it be L, 2 or yung may nakalagay na 3-D? Kapag in motion na ang kotse, should we change gears and if so, to what? Ang sabi kasi ng SA sa Toyota, lagay nalang agad sa D coming from a full stop, napansin ko lang kasi na parang hirap or mabagal ang hatak. Or naninibago lang ako dahil nga manual car drivers kami?

We read the manual pero still want to ask for the experts help here. Thank you in advance.

Agree with dr. d, just use the D and you're good to go. You only use the L or 2 if you need some engine assist on braking while going down a steep slope. Also, turning OFF the O/D (overdrive) sometimes help during overtaklng as you may hold your gear without the computer interfering. You really can't compare the MT vs AT (especially in an Avanza) if your basis is the "pull feel", MT wins on this area as the engine have less losses as compared with the AT. Also, during long traffic stops, make it a habit to put your gear to "N" to preserve your transmission and to save fuel as well, but don't forget to pull your Hand brake while doing this. Don't worry, the convenience which the AT gives to your mother is "Priceless" as compared of driving a Manual. I myself have an AT Avanza, and believe me, I will never go back to using a MT again

Thank you! We had a "how to drive an automatic 101" tutorial earlier using the tips you provided. LOL! Yes, she really feels the convenience of driving an automatic pero she still decided to keep our manual Avanza para daw sa mga pang "harabas" na lakad nya. Hehehe.

visit enchanting kingdom and ride the bump cars.
ATs are similar, without the bumping.

if owner has no real need for a second car, sell it. un-used cars deteriorate.

Just want to seek for your inputs fro my Avanza 2014 1.3J... Lately parang matigas ang clutch ko. Walang play yung clutch pedal. No problem with the shifting though. Had my change oil earlier and pinapa-adjust ko sa mekaniko baka pwede luwagan ng konti pero wala raw adjustment yun. Any suggestions po?

I don't have a manual Avanza. And I don't believe your manual doesn't have an adjustment. Check other shops Sir.

i have yet to see a car that has no provision for adjusting pedal free play.

I have an Avanza 1.3 A/T and there is no O/D switch. Where is it located?

I am not familiar with the 1.3E AT, but in my 1.5G AT the O/D switch is located under the shifter lock (there is a small button directly below shift lock, pressing and depressing this activates and deactivates the O/D)

Ok. Thanks. I just found out from Toyota that there is no O/D switch for 1.3 E A/T.

Since yours doesn't have the O/D, care to share Sir as to what RPM you have on your last gear at speeds 80 and 100 KPH?

I have not checked it while at 80 but the last time my speed at 100 kph, it's just above 3000 rpm.

It's almost the same as mine. So this means there are no difference in terms of rpm vs speed, whether you have or you don't have an O/D. Still the same number of 4 forward gears. Thanks for sharing!

ung avanza ko e variant 1.3 m/t 2017 average consumption nya 16km/L (maintained eco mode & 2.5 rpm,single pasenger,normal aircon).average of 17km/L w/o ac at normal traffic.

Help me mga masters. My 2008 Toyota Avanza J seems to have an idling problem. The RPM goes up and down when the A/C is on and there is a clicking relay sound. This only happens when on full stop with A/C on. Youtube video below:
