During WW2 germany destroyed most of soviet unions aircraft on the onset of german invasion of the soviet union forcing them to use old bi planes in their arsenal to carry on the fight. As the war dragged on due to soviet fierce resistance to nazi occupation of their land the soviets captured more advanced german fuel (high octane). With shortage in fuel and wary about the adverse effects of high octane petrol the soviet pilots were forced to use it on their ageing bi planes. After their initial run with the trophy fuel they reported to their superior officers that they reached their destination faster
Those soviet pilots were purely female in those trying time the soviets utilized all the resources they got. Those pilots are known to the germans as 'night witches'. Additionally, due to the old technology of their aircraft they did most of their bombing run during night time when they are least vulnerable to german ground fire and to sow fear to their enemy by depriving them of sleep
Theres a series made by 'star media' about those valiant pilots and the title is the moniker given to them by the nazi 'night witches'
So when the manual tells you to use 91 octane it simply means that its the minimum octane you can utilize and it should not preclude you from utilizing higher octane if its available except for skyactive enginesLast edited by kisshmet; September 26th, 2015 at 01:48 AM.

September 26th, 2015 02:15 AM #8226^MERON. Iba yung feel e.

I remember seeing a youtube video before (years ago, it was circulating the net when Petron introduced their 100 RON) testing 3 different cars that tries to replicate the budget segment, more of a middle ground and last one is a sport car (with high compression ratio). All three cars are tested with lower RON fuel (as required by Manual, to be used as Base measurement) and later on, with 100 RON fuel. In all instances, they used DYNO to measure the power and the gains from using 100 RON fuel
I can no longer remember the figures but they concluded that it is a waste of money to go beyond the minimum Octane rating if your engine compression ratio is low. It is a different story for engine that is designed to have higher compression ratio. The test they did clearly showed that there is an improvement.

Ako naman initially pinakarga ko 91 Octane from Caltex.
Then nalaman ko may ethanol pala.

perhaps chyll2's response (#8207 above) qualify..
but really.. the internet is years full of "information" declaring that using higher octane fuel than what the manufacturer recommends, is a waste of money.
what i do know, is that sometimes the engine is a little "out of whack". you know.. too advanced ignition timing... overheating engines.. cylinders so full of crud that their compression ratios are significantly higher.. these types of engines do benefit from higher octane fuel use, because it prevents pre-ignition.
Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
