Sabe ko nga kung mas mura lang ang petrol fuel locally, mas maeengganyong mag gas ang marami over diesel. Sa diesel kasi if fuel cost lang + efficiency = longer distance travel, lalo if everyday use. Tapos andun din yung trait na pwede mong gamitin anytime kasi matipid. Pero yun nga, if may arep ka naman edi bat mo pa iisipin yun diba.

Most rich people also think about the resale value of the car in the long run.
Gas fed SUV are a hard sell on the 2nd hand market and depreciation is higher than its diesel counterpart.
No matter how rich some folks are tumatawad pa rin mga yan if pwede. They know the value of their money and tend to try to hang on to most off it.
Which is also why most prefer the LC200 since it has a better resale value as compared to the Prado.

"if we bought it cheaper than diesel when brand new, we shouldn't complain too much that its used-car market value is also cheaper than diesel."

For city folks, the tag differences between diesel & petrol variants may not be mathematically justified. But for them whose regular routes are long, remote... to places where name pumps are far between, diesel vehicles(& those w/ large or secondary tanks) will be more than desired. And those who wheel to nowhere, jerrycans are almost always a must for the petrol'd ones.

    i agree.
if government were to price diesel to be markedly more expensive than gasoline,
fewer folks would be driving diesel vehicles and our air would be cleaner.
    IF.

Pero you have to consider na full size din kasi ang lc200 and its toyota's flagship suv. Meanwhile, the prado has a much higher resale value than say, a pajero or an explorer. Even the v6 gas variant. It may also trump the expedition in that aspect too. Sa bagay, toyota kasi plus it also belongs to the lc family hehehe.

Marami kasing jeepneys rito are using surplus engines from older isuzu and mitsubishi trucks eh puro diesel mga yun.

a high-ranking government official declared that he will make diesel cheaper, because it was the "fuel of the masses".
to the detriment of gasoline, of course.

    kaya ayon,
ang daming non-masses ang bumili ng diesel vehicles.
