Toyota's sportscar heritage begins anew with the GT 86 (w/ video)
Words by Christopher Kho | Photos and video courtesy of Toyota Europe

After three years in development, Toyota's next heir to its sportscar lineage is finally ready to break cover. What once known as the FT 86 concept has been aptly renamed the GT 86 - Toyota's interpretation of the ultimate driver-focused machine.

Toyota returned to the simple front-engined rear-wheel-drive sportscar formula that gave birth to the nameplates AE86, Celica, MR2, and 2000 GT. The equation begins with a compact Subaru-derived 2.0L four-cylinder boxer engine that's mounted on a lightweight chassis as low as and far back possible to achieve a near-perfect 53/47 weight distribution. Then add 197 horses and 205 Nm to the rear wheels via a limited slip diff and you've got the blueprint for a true driver's car. And while ABS and vehicle stability control threatens to alienate drive skill from the brew, don't fret because Toyota designed these systems to function with minimal intervention.....

When it comes to performance cars, the angry purr of V6 and rumble of V8 (and so on) is all I can relate to power. My adrenalin simply don't respond well with the 4L sound and its 200hp. Well, maybe we spread sand on the tarmac first to smoke it. I can't emagine bringing a puppy in weekend pitbull run.

it should be, cause if it's not then it won't sell well. the TOTL gc is already at 1.8M while the STi is 2.4M and if rumors are true the mustang will be around 2-2.5M, that would be hard to compete with if they sell it more than the price of the gc.

No buzz here after the announcement of the confirmation of sale here in the Philippines? TMPH should take this as a sign of caution for their pricing. Not less than 2M ang projected price nito sa atin, which is asking for too much IMO. Toyota Motor Philippines to launch 86 sports car 'quite soon' - News | TopGear.com.ph
