List of Toyota D4D Probems (Choking, Hard Starting, etc.)

as someone in the Toyota D4D woes thread made a suggestion to make a list for tsikoteers who experienced hard starting of their Toyota D4D, i made this thread exclusively for the list of of the particular tsikoteers. Please list down your forum name and make/model what toyota did to your unit. I'll start with me:


1. numbah5 toyota fortuner 2.5D4D G reprogrammed ECU during 1st 1000 km PMS then replaced supply pump at 11000 km

Hilux 3.0, D4D, 11,500kms; no problem with engine. But transmission oil seal damaged.

Talagang ganun ba kagrabe itong D4D ng toyota? Alternate ko pa naman sana yung diesel Innova sa Starex Van (kasi naka 3 Starex na kami at di pa din sila nagpapalit ng itsura)!

madumi diesel natin? how come toyota lng ang may problema? bat wala problem ang sorento, starex?

hehehe, yung BMW, Hyundai, Mercedes, Rexton nga di nagbabara eh. Kung fuel problema di sana pati Strada nagc-choke na rin. Denso rin kasi parts nun like ng D-4D.

sir,sabi mo lahat ng releases starting 2006, no problems na,ibig bang sabihin okey na yung mga releases ng mga sumunod pang taon? kasi kabibili ko lang yung ride ko last march 2007,toyota innova j m/t D4D,gusto ko lang makatiyak na wala sana akong magiging problema,katunayan sa ngayon ay wala pa naman talagang problema akong naranasan.

Sir bagong registered po ako dito. Tanong ko lang po sana advice nyo kung tutuloy ko pa pagbili ko ng fortuner 2.5 diesel A/T. Kasi mas madami po ako nabasa negative kesa sa mga positive output ng fortuner.

First car ko po bale ito kung sakali bibilin ko. Nagdecide ako brand new bilin ko kasi wala ako kaalam alam regarding troubleshoot ng mga kotse kaya ayaw ko 2nd hand baka ilan months lang titirik na ako. Sa tingin nyo po ba good choice parin fortuner lalu na kung concern ko yung hindi ako titirik sa gitna ng daan.

but why do i hear different noise from the engin before it breaks down..but definitely aside from the fuel pump that has to be changed on the fortuner and its sucking rear suspesion, everything's well and prestigious..

i also have a 2005 diesel innova G. i never had a problem with it till lately. my innova is having problems on start up. you need to accelerate in order for it to start at normal idle speed. maybe you have any suggestion on what to do. does anybody experienced this kind of problem maybe you can share it. we have already changed the fuel filter assembly but still the problem is unsolved. we really need help.

2013 innova released last october 31, 2012. odometer reading 190 kms as of november 7, 2012. problem, thick white smoke sa umaga for the first 2 kilometers driving. pre heated the engine for 5 minutes before starting to drive.

2.5 d4d engine needs 6.9L oil on a toyota standard size oil filter. but around 6.7 is enough.

Nawala na ba yung fuel filter light? Ganyan din ang problem ko, nung umilaw nagpalit din ako ng fuel filter pero naka ilaw pa rin ang fuel filter warning light.

i am confused..
are we blaming the fuel or the filters?
if it is the fuel, then why did the problem cease when the filters were replaced?

i have one of the first batches 0f 2005. my filter warning light lighted up early on (water contamination daw). i replaced the filter myself, and it hasn't recurred since.
