Bicol express adds another night trip

(Published in the Manila Standard Today newspaper on /2012/March/13.)
    by Lailany P. Gomez

Philippine National Railways manager Estelito Nierva said another trip after the 6:30 p.m. Bicol run will be added starting this week.

“The crossing points will be ready by Friday,” he told Manila Standard in a phone interview, noting one of the junctions in Adanagan, Quezon.

He said the 8:30 p.m. trip leaving Manila is timed for the expected Holy Week rush to the Bicol province, signaling the summer vacation’s influx of vacationers and tourists.

Nierva said Mayon Limited De Luxe will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, alternating with Mayon Limited Ordinary every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

The one-way fare for De Luxe is P716 for Naga, and P768 for Ligao, while that for the Ordinary is P416 and P491 for Naga and Ligao, respectively.

The south rail is supported by the Department of Transport and Communications in its program to expand the travel network across the archipelago. The trains were supplied by East Japan Railway Co.

“The recent revival mid last year of Bicol Express would give the riding public in the South an alternative means to reach provincial destinations in southern Luzon [and vice-versa] and likewise enjoy the countryside scenery in comfort,” Nierva said.
A user commented in his post: Country side scenery in the dead of the night?

BEx and ML trips are fully booked until the second week of April.

More RS donations pa sana. Per info from GM Raggy's COS, meron pang 4 trainsets to be shipped sa Pinas.

I hope the President and Mar realize the importance of the PNR for mass transport. At pati for freight service.

a sustainable form of transport for a growing urbanisation across provinces throughout the country, yes i agree pnoy and mar should seriously put some real bacon into it not just bits of subsidy.

    expensive but indispensable.

PNR tested the recently donated EMU units hauled by a locomotive to Calamba. Mukang ready na isabak in action to next week.

Anyway, PNR is slowly getting back on track despite its meager resources.

pero dapat ayusin ng PNR ang mga railroad crossings sa south.

one of the problems of the PNR management is when they apply warnings and markings in rail road crossings to warn and avoid accidents, people steal the markings and sell it to junkshops

The purpose of the visit is to spread the devotion to Ina, as how Bicolanos address Her, and to invite participation of the lay faithful in the crusade to raise 3 million rosaries for Mama Mary. These rosaries will be distributed to public elementary and high school students of catechesis nationwide.

For devotees, the special PNR “Pilgrimage Train” will leave Naga City in Bicol on May 13 at 7:00 a.m. and is open for reservations on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Final stop of Our Lady of Peñafrancia is at the PNR Tutuban Station where PNR General Manager Junio Ragragio will meet Ina for an overnight Vigil and homage by devotees. It will then be transferred to Sta. Monica Parish Church in Tondo via a procession which will go around the Tutuban Shopping Mall at 4 PM on Monday, May 14, 2012.

After the triduum, there will be “mantling,” a healing session, which is unique to Our Lady of Penafrancia, by way of laying Ina’s “manto” (cape) on the faithful.

Since 2010, the pilgrim image of Ina is brought, upon invitation, to parish churches and chapels of institutions and offices, where either a three-day prayer or a novena is held.

Archbishop of Caceres Leonardo Z. Legaspi, O.P., D.D initiated the pilgrimage, in the aim of spreading the devotion of Ina among the youth and beyond the borders of Bicolandia.

A state-owned railway company, PNR currently operates in two commuter rail services in Metro Manila and in the Bicol Region, one leaves at 6:30 p.m. bound for Naga and another at 8:30 p.m. bound for Ligao, and vice versa. Its newly renovated railways aim to revitalize commuter services in the capital, and restore the Manila-Bicol route.
