Re: discount card, wala Sir. :D

Per info from one of our friends who was onboard the Trial Run, they were able to hit 110kph in a section in Tiaong, Quezon.

Average speed on flat sections: 70-85kph
Average speed on uplands: 45 kph

^^ T-611 and PS-01 last Friday were both fully booked, PNR had to release a statement na wala ng bakanteng upuan. Nakita ko mismo yung PS-01 sa Calamba and indeed there was a lot of passengers and was 30 minutes ahead of schedule. PS-03 last Saturday utilizing Kiha 52 was waaay faster, more then an hour ahead sa TT nya.

Problem though is yung byahe kanina na T-612 at PS-04 were both delayed by more than 1.5 hrs, probably due to wheel slipping sa Bondoc Peninsula.

I'm expecting mabilis ang byahe nito kahit umuulan kasi specifically designed sha sa temperate mountainous regions in Northern Japan. She was also utilized as the BCT during her brief stay in Naga.

this is very encouraging. i am very much for the use of trains as mass transport system especially to the provinces. cheap, clean, efficient long distance travel. Since ive never rode a PNR train..., malakas ba ang demand nito? or are private cars/buses still the favored mode of transpo out of the city?

*Sir Poorprince: The trains of the Metro Commuter Line are always FULL. Walang sinabi ang siksikan ng MRT. :D PNR needs more trains.

As for the Mindanao Railway, meron na proposal para dito, hanggang ngayon ata bukas pa ata yung opisina ng Mindanao Railway sa Mindanao, expenses paid for by our tax money :D

*Sir 4dboys96: Ang SMC merong unsolicited proposal sa DOTC to take over the PNR, rehabilitate it, expand it to Laoag and Sorsogon at absolutely no cost to the government.

I hope this is a day trip so passengers can see the beautiful scenery of the train route especially in Gumaca to Lopez, Quezon.

    2nd Bicol Express trip mulled
    By KRIS BAYOS
    November 7, 2011, 5:15pm

MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) is studying additional trips for the Bicol Express after its ridership doubled during the last All Saints’ Day break.

PNR General Manager Jun Ragrario said the PNR board is considering a second trip for the Bicol Express, which runs between Tutuban in Manila and Naga City in Camarines Sur daily, after its passenger volume increased from October 28 to November 2 with only a minimal drop after the peak season for travel.

Ragrario said the Bicol Express, which can accommodate at least 152 passengers per trip, usually has 35 percent of its seats filled during lean seasons. But the passenger volume doubled during the traditional exodus to the provinces.

“Undas (All Saints) proved to be an opportunity for us to market the Bicol Express because only a few passengers knew that it was already operational,” he said.

“The ridership increased by an average of 80 percent during Undas,” he added.

Ragrario said the passenger volume during All Saints Day gave them a preview of what to expect for the Christmas break and is why they are mulling a second trip for the Bicol Express.

He encouraged commuters to take the PNR for their trips to Southern Luzon especially since fares are still on promotional rates. He said Manila-to-Naga passengers will only pay P548 for air-conditioned reclining seats or P665 for family sleeper cabins with four berths each.

The trip takes just about 10 hours.

^^ Sir, PNR is fixing the destroyed Travesia Bridge in Albay so the BEx can reach Legazpi City.

Iriga Station is currently open and used a stop for the Bicol Commuter Train (BCT).

    PNR steps up service upgrade

    By KRIS BAYOS
    Manila Bulletin
    November 18, 2011, 2:36pm

MANILA, Philippines — Thirty more donated train coaches from Japan are set to arrive before the end of the month to be used to expand the capacity and improve the operation of the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

PNR General Manager Jun Ragrario Friday said 30 electric motor units (EMUs) previously used by Japan Rail East (JRE) will be shipped to Manila toward November.

He said the EMUs are similar to those used in the Light and Metro Rail Transits (LRT and MRT), so they have to be refurbished and reconfigured to operate in the PNR Metro Manila line.

Ragrario said the delivery of additional coaches from Japan will improve the capacity of PNR’s current six train sets, composed of 18 coaches, which are plying daily the PNR tracks from Tutuban in Manila to Alabang in Muntinlupa City.

“With the additional coaches, interval between PNR trips will be reduced from 30 to 20 minutes. Less overcrowding of passengers will be a likely result of shorter headway,” he added.
