So when will the old trains be phased out? I saw the PNR trains running twice in the last month and both times it was the old cars and old engine.

The PNR is still rehabilitating the Tutuban-Alabang route. Wooden are replaced by concrete tiles. Bicol Line from Quezon-Albay is undergoing rehab. There are now 6 brand new diesel trains, 1 refurbished loco and 1 set of refurbished coaches. But there is a plan either to replace the trains (the old Japanese Commex trains of the PNR with new ones or just fully refurbish them.
