Don't blame the government. What can they do when they have to put up with a population that is corrupt as well?

Efren's a gem among the corrupt. I hope he holds on to his principles. It's hard to find people like him nowadays.

Sabi ng isang life coach na napakinggan ko..

"Ang pinoy ngayon eh mali ang pagkakaintindi sa heroism"

    "Wrong concept of heroism"

Efren Penaflorida is not a hero

and please, Manny Pacquiao is not a hero.

Dont get me wrong. Im not saying na bad sila. Maganda ginawa strategy sa pagturo sa streetchildren. Mabuting tao din si efren. But definitely not a hero.

At sino ang CNN to tell us kung sino ang hero natin. A foreigner telling us who our hero should be. Bakit nagpapabola tayo sa kano.

Kahit yung dalawang siraulo tv station, channel 2 and channel 7 salita ng salita about sa hero.

Last mother day ang winner si mother ricky reyes :charot:

Just wondering what is your definition of a hero? He may not fit the classic definition of a hero. But as one who put others above himself, he is certainly worthy of the recognition especially when he's been teaching poor kids for 12 years.

Efren is also somebody to emulate for the kids. He grew up in a hostile environment which makes drugs and violence the more convenient path for him. But he is intelligent enough to be aware of it and choose to fight it, not just for himself but he is so selfless to even spend a lot of his time educating the needy. Somebody with weak willpower will just accept it and let defeatist attitude take over.

To Efren, May you continue to inspire and teach not just the kids in front of you but show example to the rest of the world. Bow ako sa puso at galing mo Efren

BIR plans to tax CNN hero Peñaflorida

MANILA, Philippines - He may have won the CNN Hero of the Year award but Efren Peñaflorida is getting no love from the taxman.

Peñaflorida, a social worker whose "kariton classroom" captured the world's imagination, earlier revealed that he would be paying as much as 30% of his $100,000 cash award from CNN to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

He said 60% of the prize money would go to his company, Dynamic Teen Company, while the remaining 10% would go to his church.

Peñaflorida earlier said he planned to use 90% of the money to expand his school-on-wheels project and build a permanent structure, where he can teach street kids some basic skills.

The BIR's plan to tax Peñaflorida recently caught the ire of senatorial candidate Alexander "Pinoy" Lacson who described it as a "bad joke."

“It’s tantamount to punishing Penaflorida, who has brought prestige and honor to our country. This is something that makes every Filipino sad. Guys like him are our national treasures,” said Lacson.

He added: "Most of those cash awards are one-time awards, which their recipients should enjoy and put to good use. They are not that substantial to adversely affect the country’s fiscal position."

Lacson, author of the book “12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do to Help Our Country", is running under the Liberal Party banner.

    Eh di, na-tax din yun?
