Kung galing ka ng Kaptipunan ngayon at papunta ka ng Eastwood, you'll wish na may mas malapit na U-Turn slot.
True... but the reality is that majority of those transversing C-5 Libis are usually passing through to Pasig/Makati or Q.C./Marikina so it's safe to assume that the benefit of closing the U-turn slots is for a greater majority of the road users.
Now... they just have to discipline those pesky jeeps, widen the road going to Riverbanks (the narrow intersection under the C5-Santolan-Katipunan flyover) and fix that Kalayaan Ave intersection mess.
Ito ba yung papuntang Riverbanks, right turn if coming from direction of Eastwood? May road widening works na dito. Kanina lang madaling araw, andun ang Meralco, nag-transfer na ng mga electric posts nila.
Ayus to pag natapos na, bottle neck kasi sa mga galing/papuntang Marikina.
Update!
May nakita po akong isang u-turn slot the other night near the shopwise supermarket. After Jollibee yata 'yun.
just imagine taft avenue and espana without jeepneys... haaay...
anyway, it's already december and they haven't closed the U-turn slots. nanghuhuli pa nga sila ngayon ng motorists near the kalayaan-C5 intersection, particularly those coming from pasig going to makati. binibigyan kasi nila ng priority ung mga nag-uuturn from pateros going to fort bonifacio/kalayaan. problem is, walang lane marking. there's also only one traffic light for the U-turn slot pero yung sa kalayaan, 3 traffic lights ata kaya ang mapapansin mo eh yung nasa kalayaan at hindi mo mapapansin yung nasa U-turn slot. madami lagi nahuhuli rito kaya ingats nalang.
saw this news yesterday in 24 oras...medyo may cons daw yung pagtanggal ng u-turn slots sa may Libis area kasi yung mga pedestrians ay nakikipagpatintero sa mga motorista pag natawid sila.
request ng mga taga white plains?![]()
nagta-traffic kasi dun sa may ilalim ng IPI/C5 intersection and it creates a lot of traffic under the flyover. Traffic backs up along ortigas going meralco or going Rosario or farther east pa siguro abot or lampas pa ng bridge to mariwasa.
That's the only logical explanation that I can see.
but I agree, the main culprit of all C5 traffic is that kalayaan intersection. They should build another flyover in that area. Nabale-wala yung purpose ng C5 because of that intersection. When I first drove on c5 back in 1995, drive from Cainta to BF homes parañaque took only one hour.
I traverse this road every work day and bringing in the u-turn slot after jollibee just causes traffic. when they places the u-turn slot at IPI and the other side of c-5 that goes to marikina, q.c area, the traffic was smooth although burden to drive farther, but it did help.
About the pedestrians, well, I hope they can put up a pedestrian bridge.
before all those opening and closing of u-turn slot, there were just intersections and no sudden u-turn slots on the fast lane and dangerous concrete barriers. pedestrians were able to cross the road, cars were able to turn right on the street they want to go. there were congestions alright, but its mostly because of drivers/cars dont stop and still insisting of going through when its already yellow or red light.. plus public transpos stopping at will and waiting at the intersections.
kaya i think discipline lang talaga kailangan dito.. not just the drivers but also pedestrians and commuters/passengers. but when will we ever learn?
I dunno about u guys but those u-turns saved me 15 mins of travel time everyday since they opened it again last month. I remember in November nag baha pa akala ko maiipit ako sa Rosario.
Been passing through the area everyday to fetch my wife who works in Eastwood. Mas maganda talaga kung walang U turn. Ok na yung sa ilalim ng Ortigas and Katipunan Flyover. Mahaba nga biyahe pero tuloy tuloy naman. Dati nung marami pa U turn, sobra traffic dami pang aksidente. I read in the newspaper that Citibank withdrew their TRO regarding the foot bridge being constructed by MMDA in front of their building. So medyo ma sosolve na yung daily patintero sa C5.
Eto problema, instead of a flyover, elevated U-turn naman ang gagawin sa C5-Kalayaan intersection.Di ko maintindihan si BF. Pakiramdam ko iniiwasan nyang masira yung daan papuntang 'D Fort. (Bakit kaya?) Saka i shohowcase na naman nya yung project nya to the detriment of the motorist. Tsk tsk tsk..tatakbo kasing presidente eh...

UPDATE!!!
from http://www.mmda.gov.ph
Traffic on Edsa to Improve This Year
Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday said traffic along Edsa and in six other major roads in Metro Manila is expected to dramatically improve with the implementation of several new traffic engineering projects this year.
He said the MMDA is set to resume shortly the construction of a footbridge in Eastwood, Libis in Quezon City where a spate of vehicular accidents involving pedestrians has been recorded for several years now due to hordes of pedestrians spilling over the streets, and dangerously moving across the other side oblivious to oncoming and speeding vehicles.
The MMDA has started the building of the proposed footbridge but was held in abeyance following a temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by the court in favor of a nearby Citibank branch which had protested the construction of the same. Citibank complained that initial diggings undertaken by the MMDA to install the steel girders of the walkway had damaged some of its underground utility lines.
Reports reaching the office of the MMDA chief said Citibank has requested the court to lift its TRO on the case so that the MMDA can resume the construction of the footbridge
At the Kalayaan and C-5 area in Makati City, work on the construction of an elevated U-Turn slot is expected to start next month, according to Fernando. “Expropriation of some houses to be hit by the project has been done while some residents who have been afforded prior relocation assistance have nowhere to go but go back to their resettlement sites,” he said.
He said more footbridges will be built on Edsa cor. Roxas Blvd during the first quarter of the year to ensure an unimpeded flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Similar walkways are also set to be installed on Harrison St. and Taft Avenue, all in Edsa.
More bus stops and control stations will be installed in strategic points of Commonwealth Ave.to ensure a faster and more convenient drive for motorists while road improvements will be undertaken at the University of the Philippines in Diliman that would connect it to Commonwealth Ave.
Fernando said travel speed along Edsa has sharply improved from 31.88 kilometers per hour in previous years to the present 23 kms. Per hour.
“Traffic on Edsa will further improve as soon as we implement mid this year the Enhanced Organized Bus Route system that will control passenger bus flow”, he said.
The MMDA has targeted the tagging of 2,517 bus units plying Edsa with micro-chips. At least 500 buses have already been equipped with Radio Frequency Identification technology or micro-chips that would allow the MMDA to regulate the dispatch of PUVs on Edsa based on passenger demand using the system linked to the MMDA Metrobase.
hay...wala ng pag asa MMDA...medyo konting gamit naman ng kokote...it doesnt take a genius to figure out that NOT ALL your systems are applicable to any place in the Metro...medyo matagal tagal na yan...dapat may conclusions na kayo...ang daming mas competent na planners dito sa Pilipinas...

The elevated U-turn slot at Kalayaan takes my vote though...I was always against the original U-turn slots because of their unnatural placement. C5 is practically a highway, so you should not be braking and stopping on the left side of the road to make U-turns. They're helpful in some areas but on C5 they're usually accidents waiting to happen.
The ramps for the elevated U-turn slots are on the right side, which is correct as per lane logic.
i think the MMDA succumbed to the pressure of the elite (residents of rich villages nearby C5) to open the u-turn slot near jollibee, even if it's been causing traffic again along c-5.
i was impressed when they had the political will to close all the u0turn slots, and thus improved the traffic along c-5 libis area. but i was again disappointed when they re-opened one slot just to accommodate the elitistas..
also, i would like to suggest to the MMDA that instead of constructing an elevated u-turn slot along c-5/kalayaan intersection, MMDA could put the funds to better use by constructing a flyover instead..
