January 10th, 2021 07:33 PM #53Be careful guys on what you install on your cars especially air filters that claim to be washable performance filters, it will shorten the lifespan of your engine and make it more inefficient faster than normal as time goes by using re-usable "performance" filters.
K&N and BMG filters tested in the United States of America:
1. Which Car Air Filter is Best? Let's find out! Fram, K&N, Wix, Purolator, & AC Delco showdown - YouTube
2. Do performance air filters like BMC, K&N, Sprint let more sand and dust than OEM and is it worth it? - YouTube
K&N filters checked by Master Garage PH, apparently sand and other much smaller particles are going through K&N's air filter even with oil applied from K&N recharger.

Years ago, when I was in University, the car assigned to me was an old Colt. Since it was my first car, feeling race car driver at gullible din, naka VHT orange paint yung headers, cables were electric blue, valve head covers were polished. Port & polish din syempre. Filters were changed to Ram-Flo ( wala pang K & N noon). Dirt was not filtered & engine suffered premature wear after a few years. Blow by, excessive oil consumption, burning oil... Hard lesson learned. This experience dissuaded me from ever using those so called high performance filters for my everyday ride. Since then, all filters pertaining to the engine are OEM. I just treat the expense as part of the yearly maintenance. If I have a toy car I use for competition, ok Lang to use performance filters otherwise, OEM. I don’t believe they’re bought because they are cheaper in the long run. Pang porma at pasikat yan IMO & what is an additional P600-1k every 10k. I don’t mean to bash anyone. This is just my opinion.

you also have to consider the age of the engine and the miles it has registered...
kahit anong ingat mo sa car, kalaban mo pa din yung age nya. (kung knife nga pumupurol, engine pa kaya na ang daming parts)
in my case, yung first 2 cars ko in college were modified until palakas na nang palakas sa gas and I decided it was time to go... pag-graduate ko, stock Corolla big body -> last car I received from my dad, na binalik ko later when I managed to buy my own.

best thing I like when modifying a car's air filter... the deep sound it makes, especially kung mahaba yung tube
IMO, yung 5% "increase in power" depends on so many variables, plus di naman talaga tayo mag-papa-dyno to see if there's an actual increase.
again, on personal experience, mas mura palitan yung disposable stock filter kesa sa oil+labor ng washable filter...
pero nung college days, ok lang hehehe

ako i dont buy casa OEM filters kasi subcontract lang tapos sobrang overpricing, So lunas ko eh naghahanap ako counterpart na quality.
And it helps pag meron ka kaibigan na marunong sa trucking. So puro baldwin, fleetgurad, donaldson ako.

So hard sell.

January 12th, 2022 12:45 PM #59i use k&n drop ins on a couple of our family vehicles. napapaisip tuloy ako. nakakatipid in the long run sa gastos ng filter change. power i cannot say i noticed an increase with any certainty. usually na bebenta mga sasakyan namin around 100,000kms give or take. at that point wala pa ako na fe-feel na symptoms ng engine/turbo wear nun dirt passing thru to the turbo and engine. would like to peek sa blades ng impeller ng turbo ngayon.
