Nawala yung long-*ss reply ko dito for some reason. Anyway. Lemme try to recall what I said.
Our Swift 1.2, the first ones released in 2014 to mid-2015 is has the same body as as the 1.4. Exterior is identical, except for the side mirror repeaters, and of course the ride height and mags. No dash compartment, but with steering wheel audio controls.
For me, the only thing missing in the refreshed 1.2 front fascia are the DRLs standard in the European models. You can replace the silver plastic bezel in the foglamp casing with OEM DRLs if and when they are made available at the dealership.
As for the navi touchscreen, I can't really comment because I've made do without one on mine haha. But as you said, the added tech wouldn't hurt, especially if the monitor can be used with a backup camera
The detailed comparison between the 1.4 and the 1.2, as well as a discussion on the very same dilemma (used 1.4 vs new 1.2) --and also the issues of the older models-- are on the TeamSwift forums. You can check it out there. Tamad lang ako mag-copy/paste haha.
Hope this helps somewhat.
I read the thread there regarding 1.2 vs 1.4.
There's no real preference on the thread as well but they mentioned the merits of each variant.
Since the 1.4 is per order basis only and has very long wait times it's as good as discontinued. I've gone around as well and visited some showrooms and all except one carries it. It didn't even come up until I mentioned it. They don't really push Swift 1.4 sales and some outright mention it's discontinued although it's not.
They argued that if you could get a 2nd hand unit that's properly maintained and in mint condition, for a good price, that it's a good buy.
To summarize, here's what's missing in the 1.2 that's present in the 1.4:
- Steering Wheel Audio Controls
- White Backlight for MID (vs orange in the 1.2)
- Buttons/Switches for navigating the non-touchscreen display
- Boot Lamp
- Vanity Mirror Cover
- Rear Middle Seatbelt
- Rear Middle Headrest
- Instrument Panel Box above Dashboard
- Outside Temperature Gauge
- 6 Speakers (vs 4 in the 1.2)
- Fabric Arm Rests
- Center Cup Holder
- False Floor Rack (Can have flat cargo space with seats folded down)
- 16" Alloys (vs 15" in 1.2)
- 140mm Ground Clearance (vs 170mm in 1.2)
- 1.4 engine (0-100 in 10.9s)
Here's what's missing in the 1.4 that's in the 1.2:
- Touchscreen
- Navi Ready
- Silver (plastic) accent on foglamps
- 15" Alloys (+1 15" Alloy Spare)
- 170mm Ground Clerance
- 1.2 engine (0-100 in 12.3s)
Hope this helps.
I'm really wanting the 1.4 now. Too bad they didn't release a 1.6 version of the latest facelift here. I'd get that in a heartbeat. There's really not a lot of naturally aspirated 1.6 hatchbacks in the market already. They're all being replaced by smaller engines with turbos which is sad.![]()
A few more differences:
1) Leather-wrapped steering wheel ng 1.4
2) May provision for rear foglights sa 1.2
I'd argue though, that the 4 speakers of the 1.2 has better quality sound than the 6 of the 1.4
And the stock Hella horn of the 1.2 is much louder than the stock horn of the 1.4.
Longer than 3 months na daw ba yung waitlist for the 1.4? I've only seen a couple of 1.4s with the new 3-letter + 4-digit plates in MM.
If you're willing to go through the trouble, some of those in the "not in the 1.2" list can be purchased either thru the casa or abroad like the trunk light, dash compartment, and lower stock springs.
Thanks for the added info. I managed to get a feel of the 1.2 speakers as well and they really do sound good.
Yeah ganun dn sabi sakin 3 months wait time.
Isa pa palang pagkakaiba ung grill. U shaped ung sa 1.4, and iba na ung sa 1.2
Saw someone from a thread there who purchased OEM Swift parts from abroad and made his Swift 1.2 look like a Euro Spec SZ4. It looked pretty damn good but I may not have the time, skill, or contacts to be able to pull off even the simplest of mods since starting July I'll be in and out of the country until December (1-2 weeks abroad, the rest here each month).
Does anyone have a BOOT LAMP on their swift 1.2s? Casa installed or DIY? pa share naman po.. TIA!
Undecided pa ako between wigo or swift...
Ano po pros and cons ng in-house financing and bank financing?
TIA.
If you dont have much credit history (previous loans, credit cards, bills) in-house financing would be better. But as walter said be ready to spend more on the amortization and insurance.

Paki accept naman po ako, new swift owner here. Enormous thanks!![]()
I'm afraid I won't be going to any of those countries you mentioned nor will I have time to scour for them when I'm abroad.
I'm actually pretty tempted to get a 1.2. I'm weighing my options between getting a 1.2 with the lower price and get the things that are missing from the 1.4 (mags, dash compartment, etc). Or get a 1.4 and then just get a touchscreen upgrade from the dealer or elsewhere. I am also considering getting a Jazz or Mazda 2 instead if all else fails.
Well if you don't have the time to look for all those parts (most likely you'll be ordering them from different countries, like we did), and you don't mind the three month wait, I think the 1.4 is.more practical for you.
The 1.2 is the more DIY route eh. The upside tho is you get more room for customization...like when getting the dash compartment, go straight to the CF version, or getting aftermarket mags.![]()
I'm not that into Carbon Fiber anymore. I prefer to keep it stock and simple. Maybe when I get a car that would really benefit from CF (like the 1.6 Swift that's never gonna get here) i'd consider it. And if I ever go CF, kasabay na rin non pagtanggal ng backseat, panels, at lahat ng pampabawas timbang. Haha. Ayako especially ung mga nilalagay ng car manufacturers ngayon na fake/sticker CF sa car. I'll just remove the spare tire and go half tank to get more speed and milage.
The thing I really like about the 1.2, aside from the cheaper price, is the ground clearance. I know most people here would prefer a lower stance and would get coilovers/lowering springs to do so, but I really like the above average 170mm ground clearance it has (it's got the same as an i20 Cross Sport which is already CUV territory). It's not for going off-road or anything but it should be suitable enough to go through lightly flooded roads.
I'm really conflicted sa kung anong kukunin ngayon. Baka intayin ko na lang dumating yung BR-V or ung 2017 Altis. Haha.
