What's the make and model of your car?

December 6th, 2010 02:21 PM #5If your car idles around 800rpm and stays there regardless if you have your aircon turned on or off, then the idle speed is not the problem. Most likely its in your steering system.
Let's wait for the others to post their comments.

It's a fairly rare problem but it happens; the engine stalls as you turn the wheel. It happens during turning or when reaching the limit either way, sometimes during maneuvering the car in reverse (strange). If the stalling doesn't occur when other loads are applied like turning the A/C on or shifting into gears, then you've narrowed it down to the steering system. We had that problem in the shop before on a Sentra and an Audi. The symptom was further characterized by a marked erratic stiffness while turning. Both were solved by replacing the steering pump and the feed hose.
