Does steering system matter in off-roading? Which is more durable, the recirculating ball type or the rack and pinion?

    Thanks.

IMO, yes recirculating ball is popular as it offer less "kickback" in rough terrains.

Rack and Pinion is cheaper to manufacture and has better road feel on-road.

Pero ako recirculating ball pa din due to its inherently tougher nature.

Rack and pinion is usually used in cars. kung hindi dadaanin sa powersteering mas magaan i turn ang recirculating ball than rack ang pinion

Overall, R&P steering gives better road feel and steering response.

But curiously.... and please correct me if im wrong.... most BMWs, the ultimate driving machines come with reciculating ball steering right?

Yes, most of the BMWs still use recirculating ball. Pero yung yatang LC and other 4X4s have shifted na rin to rack and pinion. Does that mean that some car manufacturers have sacrificed the quality of their steering system in exchange for a better handling of vehicle on road?
