BTW, Casa always overcharges. I'd go there just to get a checkup, then take it somewhere else to get it done.
How much did it cost you? And where is Cruven? Sorry, I'm not that familiar with auto repair shops.

Anyway, the 3 items listed above was the quote I got from speedyfix .

    Thanks

    Hi Sirs and Ma'ams,

I'm reviving this thread because I have the same problem as the TS. Same model, same problem.

I was quoted 12,000 pesos for the Power Steering Gearbox (Sabi nila gear box eh, alam ko rack and pinion yun), di yun brand new, sabi nila papadala nila sa factory para ma re-manufacture yung PS "Gear Box". 16,200 both shocks. Ouch!!!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------
So natanong ako sa Cruven. Here's the break down.

Shock absorber repair and rebuild - 1050 each x 4 = 4200++ (misc parts that needs replacing such as shock mounting, control arm boots)

Power Steering Overhaul Labor Cost - 3500
Repair Kit for overhaul - 5000 est.
If the rack needs re-chroming (might be the culprit, if the rack causes the abrasion of the seals, hence the leak) - 3500
Total estimated cost for the PS: 12,000 OUCH!!!!!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PS overhaul and rebuild. 1500.

After some time baka bumalik ulet yung leaks. Or worse baka ma loose thread.

Need your advice mga sirs and ma'am since malaki ang gagastusin.

    Hi Zephyr08,

Mukang we have the same problem. Mine's a honda accord 96. Went to Honda SPA and they quote me for the replacement ng Gearbox Assembly for a whopping 51,900 petoses excluding labor.

will try again for the last time suspetsa is yung rack that maybe causing the abrasion of the oil seal. Rechroming ba tawag para mabawasan yung talim nung rack? (I don't know kung tama).

price for repair of rack and pinion is 3K kasama na kung kailangan ireface yung shaft. of course, excluded ang PS fluid and boot (kung sira din).

The shop only do power steering. And they give 3 months warranty.

BMA ave. is parallel to Banawe. it is first street on the right if you are coming from E. Rod corner Araneta ave.

Went to Toto's power steering specialist na ni-refer mo rmpmla (Big thanks for the help) a few days ago. they were able to fix the leak in my rack and pinion. bumalik ako twice to have it check kasi nababawasan pa din ako ng PS Fluid.

nung unang balik they saw that one hose has a leak, so pinutol lang ng onti yung dulo and then kinabit ulit.

The next day nababawasan pa din ako ng PS fluid so bumalik ako ulit to have it checked. yung hose naman connecting to the PS cooling line naman yung may leak. kaso instead of palitan lang yung hose. tinangal yung PS cooling line and ni rekta nalang nung gumawa (mukang di nya kaya tangalin at ibalik bumper kaya para mabilis nag rekta nalang sya). after that i noticed ang lakas ng ugong ng steering specially pag nag papark ako. may bubbles din ako nakikita sa reservoir.

hi, speedyfix, was planning to bring my car to your shop to have it checked, kaso next year pa ata kayo mag bukas sa new location nyo?

nagkulang ang volume ng PS fluid kasi inalis yun cooling coil sa system. bleed mo system maige. with the engine off and the front lifted turn the steering wheel contineously until you dont hear the gurgling sound coming from the reservoir. palitan nalang ng hose, I'm not really fond of cutting off the edge just to stop the leak. may allowance yan for movement.

Sorry to hear that it did not turn out 100% outright OK.

Mahirap talaga minsan mag gawa ng power steering, daming complications.

    Sometimes:
    1. steering lines should be replaced rather than repaired.
    2. the whole rack & pinion assy replaced than overhauled. Even if the shaft is rechromed, the inner barrel surface may have scratches and knicks that can damage seals not to mention the delicate care a mechanic should follow during assembly.

ayos lang pre at least it saved me the cost of getting a new steering gearbox assembly which cost 52,000 pesos.

di pa ko bumabalik eh. mukang papagawa ko nalang sa iba. medyo, I'm not happy with the way how they treat the car (nagasgas hood ko). and sa returning customer for a back job (yung mga gumawa nung first visit ko parang di nako kilala nung 3rd visit ko. iniiwasan ako.)

i myself don't consider it as a back job naman. they could have told me na ibang problema na so another cost kaso ang nangyari eh iniiwasan ako.

if ever siguro may magpapagawa sa kanila, have your gearbox assembly dismantled somewhere else and just bring it to them for repair.

I've worked in carshops as a mechanic for a long time and now manages this one in Makati. Not to justify or defend mechanic attitude towards a returning customer after a just-finished repair, ino-obserbahan ko mga mekaniko namin dito, ganun din sila at times eh, and just recently, with an exactly the same car and problem as yours; '04 Accord rack & pinion leak.

The mechanic overhauled the steering. After a week bumalik yung customer with a complaint that the leak is more pronounced than before. I know then that he's giving up on the problem implicitly and that's a sign for me to assign the job to another mechanic.

It's an unfortunate and unfair treatment to receive anywhere; you bought a defective consumer product and you're treated coolly by the complaint desk; buy a lemon 2nd-hand car (or even brand-new) and the dealer suddenly seems to be aloof, a far cry for when he was still trying to sell you the car, treating you like a long lost brother. Para bang it's a natural behavior to shy away from something already "unprofitable" which is wrong.

In your case, the shop should have had a service advisor you can approach about the concerns. Regarding the scratches after the repair, a checklist prior should have been performed to prevent pinpointing later.

It's a sad reality here in the philippines. bihira kalang makakita ng store na maganda ang after sales service.

sa kalye lang sila gumagawa eh. and with the amount i'm paying i don't expect a service advisor from them. They could have been more careful with the way they treat yung car ng customer nalang nila siguro.

Dinala ko na sa honda marikina to replace the hose na may leak and pina bleed ko na din. hopefully matapos na ang kalbaryo ko sa power steering.

update on my power steering problem saga..

had the hoses in the cooling line replaced sa honda due to leaks. dun ko na pinagawa para siguradong maibabalik ng maayos yung bumper ko.

nung sinabi ko na umuugong and may bubbles sa reservoir. the SA pointed to the non original pressure hose. sabi ko tolerable naman yung noise nun medyo malakas lang talaga ngayon compared dati at may air bubbles sa reservoir. so i asked them to bleed it. I'm not sure if they did bleed it.

tried to steer left and right a few times with the engine off (di nakaangat front wheels) and nawala na yung ugong when i tried to steer left and right again with the engine on pero bumalik din ugong after a few minutes.

    or may tama na pump?

wynzam, yup we're opening on the 3rd pa. i'm almost 100% sure all of the noise, bubbles, etc are coming from the pressure hose you had recrimpped. hindi pwede ganyan kasi the oem (and even replacement hoses) will have one way valves built into the hose itself. once the size of the hose changes ganyan agad yung kinalalabasan nyan.

Will bring it to your shop nalang this coming to saturday to have it checked.

Do you also do power steering pump overhaul?

    Thanks!
