just to clarify oil change intervals. Mineral(single or multigrade) every 5,000km synthetic(single or multigrade) every 10,000km or maybe even more depends on the type of oil and the manufacturers suggestion.

please be informed that there are single grade and multi grade oils for both mineral and synthetic. You will not know just by reading the oil grade. it can be 40,40w,10w40,15w40,20w40 and so on. what you will need to make sure is that if the oil is blended and/or hydrocracked and so many other ways of producing it. but usually it will be written somewhere in the back of the packaging if the said oil is a synth or not.

actually, when my strada breaks the 150k km mark, i plan on downgrading to single grade mineral oil, and just use some additives. the clearances for the engine components will be relatively bigger by then and so using a fully synth blend will just be giving money away to the producer of the oil. That's how we've been basically doing it here in my shop.

we did it that way with the montero with 4m40 engine which used to use only belray oils, and the same with our suburban with 5.8 vortec TDI engine

honestly i do not suggest using any additives, kasi hindi pa ganun ka pefected ang crdi technology, so many things can still go wrong by adding junk to the fuel...yung mga sinasabi nila na fuel conditioner okay lang kung mga turbo or intercooler enginewith the basic rotary or elctric injection pumps, but the crdi, i'd wait for a while before i start putting stuff into it.

jedd, yung para sa iyo madami na maganda daw i dagdag eh, pero ako kasi firm believer of using the fuel free of any other additives same goes with the oil. basta malinis ang krudo okay ang makina, basta maganda ang langis at consistent and religous ang change oil, okay ka lang

Most, if not all service centers here in Metro Manila allow the customer to bring their own preferred synthetic oils. Wala naman issue of lost of warranty in doing so, afaik. Sa provincial service centers, most, if not all, do not allow bringing in of oil. The main reason I can think of for this policy is the motor oil is a major profit item. Allowing so will translate in profit loss.

^^ to add, you have to be certain that you bought a good quality oil from legitimate dealers. otherwise, the casa would not be responsible if the engine conks out due to 'fake' oils that does not conform to factory settings and specs lubricants
