A 21-year-old Japanese boxer died in a Tokyo hospital on Monday, 17 days after he was knocked out during his professional debut, the Japan Boxing Commission said.
Tesshin Okada lost consciousness after the fourth and final round of a super-flyweight bout against another professional debutant.
He was rushed to hospital by ambulance and underwent a craniotomy after being diagnosed with an acute subdural haematoma, the commission said.
He was the 38th boxer to die from accidents in matches in Japan since 1952 when the commission was founded.

March 12th, 2014 02:29 PM #9Danny "Swift" Garcia Arrives in Puerto Rico for Defense Against Mexican Mauricio Herrera This Saturday
Welcomed at the airport by several former Puerto Rican world champions, unified WBC/WBA Jr. Welterweight (140 lbs) World Champion Danny "Swift" Garcia (L) arrived in Puerto Rico for the 5th defense of his belts against world-rated Mexican Mauricio Herrera (20-3, 7 KO's) this Saturday (March 15) at the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.
Upon landing at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, Danny "Swift" García (27-0, 16 KO's), was received by former belt holders Iván "Iron Boy" Calderón, Juan Manuel "Juanma" López and Román "Rocky" Martínez, who along the Puerto Rico Secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports Ramón Orta and boxing fans wished Danny García the best of luck in his first fight in Puerto Rico this Saturday.
"I am very happy to be home in Puerto Rico again and be received by these champions. It motivates me more. We've trained really hard and we want to give a good show to Puerto Rican fans," said Danny Garcia after stepping on Puerto Rican soil with his father-manager Angel García and his team.
Danny Garcia is heavy favorite to make a successful defense from the fists of Mexican Mauricio Herrera (20-3 , 7 KO's), a 12-round bout that might not reach the distance.
The reason is that being only 25-years-old, Danny Garcia has already defeated some of the elite fighters in the 140-pound division as former champions Amir Khan, Kendall Holt, the legendary Erik "El Terrible" Morales (defeated him twice), Nate Campbell, hard-hitting Argentinian Lucas Matthysse, and the ever popular Zab Judah.
If none of the above marquee names have been able to handle the power and good boxing skills of Danny Garcia, will Mauricio Herrra be able to do it?
But Herrera - currently rated as IBF # 11, WBC # 10 and WBA # 4 - is immersed and focused in the fight of a life time and do not want let pass his shot at glory.
