^totoo pala hinala ko. UP needs to skim the provinces for raw material, rather than be content with B players of Manila schools. Obviously it cannot compete incentive-wise with say ADMU and DLSU, who get majority of the blue chips.

I am not sure, but I don't think UP recruits. They rely on tryouts from students who want to study in the University & take into account the difficulty of getting in, unless you enroll in a sports program. FEU has the best recruitment program among UAAP schools (& I don't mean only basketball, but all sports). Talented provincial kids would rather enroll in FEU since they can adjust better, rather than go to ADMU or DLSU, whose students are too upper crust for their taste. They also feel that they might not be socially & academically accepted in those schools. In FEU, if they are recruited, wala nang entrance test, pasok na lang.

^Tama, FEU magaling nga kita mo kina Belo et al. UP can't rely on tryouts and referrals alone, it needs to be active in recruitment. FYI, varsity players do not need to pass the UPCAT; talent is all they need to get in through the VAAS. Maintaining grades is another story.

They should replicate the days of Benjie Paras, Ronnie Magsanoc, Eric Altamirano. How did they manage?

^Believe me, there is always a backdoor, even for non-sports programs.

In top US universities (like Harvard, for example) there are no entrance examinations.
Heck, even Kobe Paras is already admitted into UCLA via recruitment, no entrance examinations whatsoever.
Entrance examinations are an archaic thing. It has no bearing whatsoever to how one will excel in the university or even in one's chosen field.
