Veterans for young turks: Beermen, Express to swap players

San Miguel Beer's Danny Seigle, Mick Pennisi, Joseph Yeo and a 2011 first round pick for the Air21 Express' top three rookie picks — Noy Baclao, Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rey Guevarra?

Odd it may seem, but a deal between the Beermen and the Express has already been worked out in principle.

A highly-placed source who has knowledge of the transaction told GMA News that the two-team, seven-player deal is now up for approval by PBA commissioner Atty. Chito Salud.

Whether it will be approved by Salud or not remains to be seen. The league commissioner has revised several trade deals, which is part of his mission of "avoiding lopsided trades."

GMA News tried to call Salud for confirmation, but he couldn't be reached as of press time.

The deal was made despite denials from Air21 team manager Allan Gregorio and Express coach Bong Ramos.

“I don’t know anything about that, unless there’s something being worked out without our knowledge," said Gregorio in a telephone interview.

    Ramos said otherwise.

"I know lumalapit talaga yung SMB, pero hindi ko gusto yung inaalok," added Ramos.

Apart from this latest blockbuster trade deal, Ramos was happy to welcome comebacking Leo Avenido to the PBA.

Avenido, one of the top performers in the ASEAN Basketball League, was taken in by the Express as their 13th member.

“I think he deserves a spot in the PBA after his stellar performance in the ABL. I think he’s the best ASEAN player in the league," said Ramos of Avenido.

A former PBA player, Avenido played for the Brunei Barracudas coached by Ramos. - KY, GMA News

^ looks like hindi daw pala in-approve ni commisioner salud ang supposed and proposed trade sa pagitan ng smb at air21. so at the moment, the above mentioned players are still w/ their respective teams....for how much longer though?

Trade approved: SMB gets wish of securing Air21's top rookies

This time, San Miguel Beer made sure the young turks will fall on its lap.

Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Atty. Chito Salud approved on Wednesday night the revised trade of the Beermen to secure the services of Noy Baclao, Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rey Guevarra — the top three picks in this season’s Rookie Draft.

The Beermen sent veteran player and former Rookie of the Year awardee Danny Seigle to the Express and included in the package shooting guard Dondon Hontiveros, burly center Dorian Peña, and guard Paul Artadi.

The revision made by the Beermen got the nod of Salud, who on Monday turned down the initial offer of San Miguel. The only pioneering franchise in the PBA planned to send Seigle, Joseph Yeo and Mick Pennisi for the young turks in the first trade deal, a deal which was immediately shot down by Salud.

On Tuesday, a sealed envelope with conformity from both squads, reached the PBA Commissioner’s Office. Unfortunately, Salud wasn’t there to act on it as he needed to attend to his dad, former PBA commissioner Rodrigo Salud, who was in the hospital. -

di kaya mag "leave of absence" din sa PBA itong Air21 kaya pinamimigay yung mga marquee players nila? ganyan ang ginawa ng red bull noon, then, bye-bye na sila.......

tinambakan kagabi ng gilas ang san miguel. umabot pa ng 30 points at one point ang lamang nina toroman. it just goes to show how badly the state of philippine basketball is. i mean a lot of those veterans were being thrashed by a big bunch of guys just a year or two out of college

one of the funny things i saw was while san miguel tried to up the ante of the game's physicality, sina tugade pa ang na asar

PBA board turns down Phoenix Fuel entry
    http://www.inquirer.net/sports/artic...uel-entry.html#

MANILA—Phoenix Fuel’s drive to barge into the Philippine Basketball Association roster of teams has reached the end of the line.

The PBA board of governors yesterday rejected the proposed transfer of the Barako Bull franchise to Phoenix Fuel after the fledgling oil firm failed to muster enough support for the sale to proceed.
As such, PBA commissioner Chito Salud said the board extended Barako’s inactive status for the remainder of the season, or after the Governors Cup.
PBA officials declined to reveal the outcome of the voting but a source said only six of the 10 ballclubs gave their nod to the entry of Phoenix Fuel, sponsor of the league’s out-of-town games.
“[Barako Bull’s proposed transfer of its franchise to Phoenix Fuel] failed to garner the required two-thirds majority vote as mandated by the PBA constitution,” said Salud.
The Inquirer gathered that Talk ‘N Text, Meralco, Rain or Shine, Powerade, Alaska and Barako agreed to the transfer, but Phoenix needed at least seven votes to enter the league.
“The PBA wants to extend its gratitude to Phoenix for showing interest and enthusiasm,” said Salud. “We hope the Phoenix group keeps its mind and heart open to joining the PBA in the future.”
PBA chair Rene Pardo said the Barako proposal was thoroughly debated by the board, which prohibits the entry of new teams in the middle of the season.
“If they want to reapply, that remains to be seen,” said Pardo. “But at this point, they didn’t meet the magic number.”
malamang may kinalaman dito ang SMB.. ayaw magpatalo..

Malamang sir. Pero not PBA league kinakatakot ng SMB dyan kundi ang promotion and ads ng Phoenix as FUEL company. Syempre pag sumikat yan kakalabanin nila ang Petron which also own by SMC.

what if walang bumili sa red bull? magiging 9 teams na lang talaga yung PBA? ano mangyayari sa existing franchise nila? parang mawawala na lang parang bula? or naka LOA lang sila. pero siyempre baka may penalty to and kung hirap talaga sa pera eh pano nila susustain kahit yung penalty man lang....
