Sbp is probably thinking of an exit strategy from philippine basketball. It's proving to be a costly & thankless job.

^ yan ang clamor ngayon eh
Danding did it before w/ the ncc teams but they didn't have as much success as the gilas teams did. And they had a trio of naturalized citizens na noon at their disposal (jeff moore, dennis still, and chip engelland) if memory serves me right. And Madami din away vs international teams. haha
Btw, team A ng s. korea & taiwan ang naglaro sa jones cup as part of their preparation for the asiads

Its not just the team, its also the players who will never give it all because they have their PBA career to consider
Give it all and risk injury, thats the end of their PBA career. End of their lucrative salaries.
What do they get from it? a medal, part of history they get to share with their grandchildren
The phil govt cant even assure it will continue to support their comfortable life with a PBA salary should they get injured representing the country

The best players of the land will always aspire to play for a PBA team and not the national team with no RETIREMENT PACKAGE
A PBA team will always consider their standing and their players as assets
Even the cellar dweller would look after their interest, its a corporate interest after all

The idea then was to get primo, fresh-from-college players and quarter & mold these kids under the wings of the great rajko toroman for several years. But bright minds were saying pros should be included in the nat'l team so that the country will be given a fighting chance in int'l competitions. And so this idea of sticking w/ a permanent youthful team w/ a feeder system from the collegiate ranks was eventually abandoned in favor of sending a bunch of pros w/c their mother teams (smc squads in particular) were always reluctant to release.

Iyong gilas cadets ngayon binuo para sa 2023 world cup na dito sa atin tatanghalin (iniba na ba ng fiba ang venue after the infamous bulacan basketbrawl?). The concept is to prepare a formidable squad made up of current high school & collegiate stand outs w/c will make up the nat'l team 5 years from now.
Ngayon malamang busy yan sila sa pag-aaral nila w/c should always be the case.

Ang nakakasuka pa Mac Baracael swingman nila one of the worst players ever in philippine basketball ito.
All players look after their future and their families, top that lucrative PBA contract and the players will turn their back to their company and play WHOLE-HEARTEDLY for their country
We dont even have to contend with those corporate interests
The key to sterling performance in any international competition is to take care of these players even beyond their healthy playing time
