June 15th, 2013 12:17 AM #673Hi Sir Cyferion,
After checking the specs of the 2014 U.S. version of the CX-5. There is no mention of adaptive cruise control but like Sir JohnM said, it does have cruise control. The major feature that is missing in our local version of the CX-5 AWD is the Smart City Brake Support System(SCBS).
According to Mazda's Press Release:
"The SCBS system uses a laser sensor to detect a vehicle or obstacle in front and automatically reduces the extent of the brake rotor travel to quicken braking operation. If the driver fails to perform any operation to avoid a collision, such as applying the brake, SCBC automatically activates the brakes and reduces the engine output at the same time. In this way, SCBC helps to avoid collisions or mitigate the damage from rear-end collisions at low speeds, which are the most common accidents with other vehicles. The SCBS system also includes Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmission(2), which helps avoid unintentional acceleration that could be caused by depressing the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.
Details of functionality
Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)
When driving from approximately 4 - 30km/h, a laser sensor mounted at the top of the front windshield glass detects a vehicle or obstacle in front of the car and reduces brake rotor travel to quicken braking when the system calculates that there is a risk of a collision occurring. Next, if the driver fails to perform any avoidance maneuver such as applying the brake, an automatic braking operation is activated. When the speed difference between the driver's car and the vehicle in front is less than 30km/h, the system is designed to avoid, or mitigate the damage from a collision.
Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmission
If a driver accelerates when an obstacle in front has been detected by the SCBS' laser sensor, the system alerts the driver with an alarm sound and an indicator. At the same time, engine output is curbed to stop unintended acceleration."
This would have been a very nice safety feature to have. Only high end european cars like Mercedez and Volvo has similar features. The new Subaru Forester has this feature together with the adaptive cruise control but sad to say, our local version does not include this feature even for their top of the line models. I hope Mazda and Subaru would consider including this feature in their future releases.

AFAIK the 2.5 AWD only comes with AT. Only the 2.0 FWD is available in MT. And only in silver and white
Haven't tried the AT but the MT has a sweet stick that makes shifting a joy.

June 17th, 2013 04:15 PM #680TEST DROVE one last Sunday at Fort BGC Mazda event. just right before It tested the 2.0li Forester w/c is quite underpowered IMO...
the 2.5li AWD CX-5 was a hoot to drive. very easy to weave in traffic. had good suspension compliance even with its low profile 19" wheels.
the Bose stereo should also be a worthwhile upgrade fm. stock. have also tested the I-stop, it does save u gas and together with the SkyActiv
chassis/engine.....the Luscious Red test drive unit still managed a respectable 10.5li/100km. and we know during test drives its usually wasting lots of fuel
in jack rabbit starts as well as idling with the A/C on.... its just a little bit expensive for me, hopefully my friend will get one..... and congrats to the lucky owner's out there....
Is it true na may recall ang yaris cross hev recently regarding sunroof issue? Lol.
