Only hard to believe if you've havn't heard of SKYACTIVE TECHNOLOGY before.
Here we have a case of "I'll believe anything you say as long as its got fancy words". Skyactiv is a monicker for a new generation of engines from Mazda. It offers no radical change in design and no radical advancements in technology. Yes, it might be a more modern engine and it could be paired to a good transmission. But displacement is displacement. And 1400kg is 1400kg.

9 km/L? Sure, my Altis 2.0V could do that on light city traffic. On moderate to heavy traffic? Doubt any 2-liter gas car can do it in Philippine traffic. Which is why I was asking for the average speed. IIRC, the CX-5 has an onboard computer that has avg. speed readouts.

    skyactive =engine, transmission & platform/body design.
displacement in relation to curb weight doesn't make any sense anymore(generally) in determining how good or bad the FC will be, it's a thing of the past.

well, even "some" 1.6L engine or less won't get that FC on moderate to heavy traffic, peace

Perhaps the reading at the pumps would be a better gauge of FC on a single tankful.

After a week and 882 kilometers in the #Mazda #CX5, I averaged 11.70 km/l mixed used. Sad to see my new favorite crossover leave.

Just arrived at Subic with *AngelBrewrats and *neilonradio for the *ToyotaPH #86 launch. We drove the #Mazda #CX5 Mileage? 11.23 combined.

After a trip to Batangas, the #Mazda #CX5 is averaging 15.87 km/l. Not bad.

Here's something I discovered with #CX5: the #SkyActiv transmission actually shifts below 2,000 rpm! Enough road, you'll do ~20 km/l!
test driven this car around the fort during their launching last april.... i just find it a bit expensive for me.

"Looks" might be subjective but I think I am not alone in this opinion.

the front seems a bit off for me. i must agree, there is truth to your comparison with the stavic. but that's just me, though

i wont say its ugly, but i find the front a little lacking with details.

But everything else (the body) is very BMW-ish which is a good thing.

mga sir...just for comparison. i am thinking of buying CX7 / CX5 if its more economical on fuel.

    My ride: Tucson 2009 A/T
Daily route: binan laguna to the fort taguig (almost 80km vice versa monday to friday).
    speed of 80-100km (SLEX) 60-80km(C5)
every monday fill up to full tank (almost 42 liters) and before i fill up again for full tank i have travelled 400km ++,

any comments on your ride. tnx
