Which is the more reliable brand of laptop / notebook these days: Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Toshiba? For home use only, maybe 12-14 inch screen size.

Is it still cheaper to get in U.S. (assuming shipping is free) or is the price difference negligible? Are there still brands that honor international warranty?

Maybe if you'll look online you might say it is cheaper to buy abroad. But then you'll have to factor in sales tax, shipping, at customs duties. Assuming magpapabili ka na lang sa friend or kamag-anak, hindi rin libre ang utang na loob, ah? Dagdag mo pa ang warranty issues kung sakaling magka-problema. Even it says me international warranty, I wouldn't bet on it.

I think lahat naman yan ay good brands, just remember the caveat "you get what you pay for". Don't expect to get the same durability when you pay peanuts for your particular unit.

Bought a Asus 14 inch in Gilmore. It broke a few months after. Luckily it was under local warranty and was repaired at no charge. 3 years later its still OK,(cross-fingers),,,

Based on my experience, I'd rank them as follows:

    1. Dell
    2. Asus
    3. Toshiba
    4. HP
    5. Acer

Aside from Apple, I only buy ASUS. Says a lot of my favoritism for them and to think I've been tinkering with computers since I was still in elementary..

ASUS is one of the more reliable laptop makers.

Worst (from your list) would be HP and Acer as their defects rate is pretty high.

Locally, the prices of laptops are pretty cheap. Barring student & similar discounts (abroad) prices for laptops under P40K, prices are about the same here as compared to HK.

asus for me. wag yung netbooks.
    they have international warranty.
but I use an acer laptop -mag six years old na.
replaced Lcd and the hinges. parts bought from ebay and then Diy lang. pag service center kahit anong brand mahal bayad parts and labor.
and based from work experience - HP and Dell are not that good for long term keep.

Number 3 ang acer sa top!
But, I will still stick sa Acer because of my personal experienced. Wala pang napapalitan after 5yrs. Battery sana for replacement pero cost me 5k.

My other option is Sony, kaso hindi competetive ang price tapos yung range +/- 40k nila hindi ko pa type ang design.

For me, they are pretty much the same. I've used Toshiba, Asus, HP and Acer. So far they all served well. Usually the battery dies first. Memory and HDD are user replacable parts. LED monitors can be replaced by local rpair shops. Dont bother going to the casa, they charge so high its better to buy new. 3rd party repair shops can do the same for a lot less money.

    Just stay away from NEO.
