Smartphones with digital wallets will only be extension of credit cards and generally only useful for cities with extensive implementation of NFC payment technology (like the Octopus system in HK). But they are still too easy to steal to be mainstream in other countries.

what i meant was replacement of the physical plastic cards with digital ones.
