Basically, it depends on your definition of watch brand and continuity.

That's the strange thing about some watch snobs. They think or feel that continuing ownership or operation of the watch company equates to how long the brand has been existing. The reality is, companies, especially in the manufacturing sector (like watches), do change ownership over time.

If you look at the name of the watch strictly as a brand or trademark or trade name, then it has been in existence from the time that brand was created --- regardless if it stopped making watches for some time and then resumed, or if it changed hands.

Hay. This watch hobby can really tempt you to spend irresponsibly on something that you don't need at all.

I guess what makes luxury watches so enticing is that unlike sports cars that are really out of budget, a Rolex or even an AP can actually be purchased by anyone with a fair bit of savings. Of course, it's utterly impractical considering a Daytona already costs more than what the average Filipino earns in a year, and that a Submariner costs 5000% more than a Seiko Sea Urchin yet they look the same to the average joe, but when you immerse long enough in the watch forums you'd think that you need to have this watch or that.

It's quite fun reading and learning about watches but it really takes a lot of self-discipline to just appreciate and not want to buy them. [emoji23]

It's just like a project car, the fun part is in the chase/build.

Sorry, i did not mean to mislead, i meant that the Carrera is used (2x to 3x a week in fact) but unmolested that i have not opened it up for servicing from the time i obtained it from the previous owner (as so far i have not seen a need to).

Believe me, the crying part really takes up most of the time.
I would think that is due for a service already bro. 10 years is too long imho even if it is seldom used. The oils used to lube the movement still degrade over time just like in cars.

I ask because my Speedy is still keeping perfect time but as the Hodinkee article says, keeping time is not a definitive indicator of a watch's need for servicing.

I'd at least have it looked at bro. No harm in having a (competent) watchmaker take a peek at the movement.

Since an IWC Portugieser is a faraway dream, this is the closest I can get to a perpetual calendar moonphase:

I don't see (yet) the value f watches hovering above .5M

Nun sinabi ng tatay ko bumili siya niyan, sabi ko "sayang pera"

Sabi niya lang, "in time, i'll understand" [emoji23]

    Hey Seiko 5 buddy!

Btw if you wanna upload pics via Tapatalk you have to get an older version of the app from apkmirror.com.
