Well, this isn't 1994 anymore. I think that one should be next. If even just for internet browsing, a bigger monitor will benefit you. With your video card, a 17" monitor would be just right. I wouldn't bother with anything bigger.

Also.... I'd hold off on Vista until you upgrade to a whole new pc. Except for eye candy, you're not missing too much.

    Some free apps you ask?

Here's some that I use. I'm sure there are other free apps other people use:

    AVG - antivirus software
Spybot Search and Destroy - spyware removal
    Ad-Aware - spyware removal
DeepBurner Pro - DVD and CD burning software
    Google Earth
Everest Home Edition - system monitoring
    Converber - unit conversion
DVD Shrink - removes copy protection from DVD
AutoGK - mpeg to xVid/Divx converter
SimpleDivx - vob to Divx/xvid converter
    Audacity - Sound recorder/editor
    7-Zip - multiple format archive/extract
FLV player - plays saved downloaded YouTube files
    Free YouTube to iPod Converter
Star Dock Objectdock - glorified toolbar like OSX's Dock.
Tagalog Translator - comes in handy here
Start Killer - makes Start Button disappear
    MS VirtualPC 2004
MS Photo Story 3 For Windows
    iTunes
    WinAmp
    WMP11
    IE7
    Firefox
    Windows Media Encoder 9 Series
    Thunderbird
Windows Defender - realtime antispyware (legit XP only)

DOSBox - running old DOS games reliably
ScummVM - runs old Lucasarts games
    Project64 - N64 emulator
    MAME32 - arcade emulator

    Additional:
Open Office - Office Suite like Microsoft's but free
nVidia firewall - only if you have an nForce4 Ultra motherboard
NASA World Wind - like Google Earth except it's for the Moon and Mars
Celestia - open-source Astronomy app *awesome*

pls post the current specs of your pc and the programs/games that you're planning to run and are currently using.
yeah epox easily give up due to high heat temperature.. madaling masira epox motherboard kapag mahina cooling system ng cpu mo.. pero its the best combination with amd processors in the league of gaming... mabilis siya magbasa compared with other boards... so kung mabilis mgbasa ang isang hardware it only means that it can easily heat up temperature... kaya yung akin tinadtad ko ng cooling fan and tubes... hindi rin advisable mag liquid cooled.. ive also placed my desktop inside my room para aircon.. 2 years na to.. up to now ok pa rin.. parang naka xbox 360 ako lalo na pag naglalaro nfs carbon....... recent na naging sira nitong desktop ko is the wireless connection... thats all...

dagdag ka pa ng 512mb kung kaya. sweet spot para sa xp ang 1gig.

tama sinabi ni jun. get a new monitor. 17" if you're into a bit of 3d gaming.

*MetatroN: Na-scam kasi ang Epox noon because of a stolen capacitor design from Rubicon. The thief didn't know na coded pa yung nakuha nya kaya baligtad ang karamihan sa final product though it works. Actually marami sila pati MSI at Asus nadamay but Epox had the most of returned products. To be safe, get the Solid capacitors na like from Gigabyte DSQ series.

    Jonski:

Upgrade your mobo to intel 875 chipset with HyperThreading Technology such as P4C800
SiS is not exactly a fast chipset (honestly i think it's the slowest i've tried).

Upgrade to P4 3.2/3.4GHz 800FSB (to benefit from Hyperthreading)
your current 2.4GHz 533 FSB is holding down the overall speed. Northwood is best but Prescott is alright (though medyo mainit which can be fixed by a good fan).

    Upgrade to 1GB RAM (512x2 DDR400) or 2GB (1GB x 2 DDR400)

    Upgrade to SATA-3G (aka Sata2) (200GB or 320GB with 16Mb Cache)

Upgrade to a 19" Widescreen LCD (this may be costly, around 12k++ but it will save you from premature eye exams because LCD don't flicker like small monitors. I personally use a 21" Flat Trinitron that i intend to sell or swap to a 24" Widescreen LCD).

Your current videocard is ok but if you can upgrade to a higher series like 6600GT or higher, better.

But building a new Core2 Duo system is STILL the most cost effective way to do it. hehehehehehe

i actually wanted a gigabyte 965 based dq6 (14k yata yun) for my e6600 setup kaso ang mahal! di na nakayanan ng budget kaya ended up getting an msi p965 platinum ($150 lahat-lahat na sa newegg) instead.
