The Minnesota company that made Steve Jobs' iconic black mock turtleneck has seen a dramatic sales increase since news broke that the former Apple Inc. CEO died.

Even at the price of $175, St. Croix Collections has seen sales of the familiar turtleneck double overnight, and some stores have run out of them.

that so-called giving away their wealth isnt really giving away their wealth

it's not like they're giving away cash or transferring money to other people's bank accounts

Gates' charity money is being managed by his foundation (The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation)

Warren Buffett's charity money is also in Gates' foundation (coz Buffett trusts Gates)

they really havent given away their money. They still have full control of it

im not a lawyer but i think when you give money to a foundation (even if it's a private foundation like yung kay Gates) the money belongs to the foundation na

Bill & Melinda Gates and Buffett are trustees of the foundation. they control the money

So kung si jobs pumayag sa proposal ni gates at pumayag mag bigay ng pera sa foundation, di na niya kontrolado yun, kontrolado na ni gates yung amount ng pera na yun? Tama ba?

yes. once Jobs' money is in the foundation it is no longer his money

decision-makers ang mag-asawang Gates kung saan gagastusin ang pera ng foundation

if Jobs wanted to give away money he can do it himself naman. he doesnt have to give money to Gates' foundation

he can put up his own foundation

    kanya kanya diskarte yan eh

it's really good PR when you say you're gonna give away your wealth. that's what Buffett did

but the devil is in the details

Buffett didnt give Gates' foundation cash

Buffett pledged the foundation approx. 10 million Berkshire Hathaway B shares (staggered, yearly)

ang condition ni Buffett dapat control ni Bill and Melinda ang foundation

if for some reason they no longer control the foundation, Buffett's contribution stops

that means Buffett trusts only Gates. nobody else

there a 2 lesser known billionaires -- the Koch brothers (2011 net worth $25B each)

    meron din sila foundations

know what they do? they fund right-wing causes

then there's George Soros (2011 net worth $22B)

    he funds left-wing causes

    kanya kanya diskarte

Steve Jobs thanking Bill Gates publicly for his financial help. That's a BIG THING for the egotistical Apple founder.

Of course, unsecured loans in an emergency situation for a Dying company would require certain conditions. That's SMART BUSINESS.

Apple had run out of cash, had ugly products, and poor sales in 1997. Which meant only one thing...Bankruptcy.

And no more tax on it even if it earns due to funding in non-profit orgs. Anyway, they have control on who to endow it to but they have to follow certain protocols to avoid using it as an excuse for transferring inheritance which is subject to tax regulations.

    What Job's think of Microsoft...

Mr. Jobs castigated competitors, particularly Microsoft. Bill Gates’s company, which dwarfed Apple in power and wealth during the 1980s and 1990s, was not even described as second rate; it was deemed third-rate. Worse, it was not even trying.

“The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste,” Mr. Jobs said in a typical broadside. “They have absolutely no taste. And I don’t mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don’t think of original ideas, and they don’t bring much culture into their products.”
As far as he's concerned, Windows stole/copied from the Mac OS.
