Back in the 70's and 80's, the main failure points of window A/Cs were the metal base. They rusted through in a matter of a few years. The sweet spot was when they started transitioning to a plastic base. But eventually, in the name of efficiency and manufacturing cost-savings, they also started using materials that were relatively lighter and thinner (ie. coils, compressor), and then the trouble shifted to those parts.

Ah i see, what model did you replaced it with ? Had good luck with the Hitachis(even though they have a reputation for moisture ingress issues) but it seems they made it worse lately atleast the specs on the nameplate suggests to be so.

Yung ambient sensor kasi nasa malapit sa evaporator kaya akala niya malamig na room when this issue happen kaya pahinain/off niya compressor prematurely.

Lately, nag Panasonic Inverter WT na ako, no issue so far for 3 yrs ownership.
My Carrier before, less than 1 yr lumabas nung issue niya, kaya mas happy ako sa Panasonic Inverter ko ngayon.

Want longer cleaning interval? To prevent all the dirt & moisture gelling up, run the AC on fan for a while before turning off. My practice is around 30mins to dry everything.

That's right. I run an automated routine to do this when we turn off each A/C.

Drying up the evaporator coils after use impedes the growth of mildew, algae and other bio mass that takes the form of a slimy gel-like substance.

AFAIK, Toshiba invented the inverter tech for HVACs in the 80s.

There was the Carrier-Toshiba partnership back in the late 90's to use some of those tech, but when Midea acquired some 80% stake of Toshiba in 2016, Carrier is now dealing with Midea. So if it gives anyone some comfort, both Carrier and Midea (including a smattering of other brands) utilizes some, if not most of Toshiba's inverter tech.
