iPhone 5 Touch Screen Twice as Fast as Android Touch Screen

The iPhone's touch screen has a much faster response time than its Android and Windows counterparts, according to a new set of TouchMark benchmarks from cloud streaming company Agawi.

Using a 240fps high frame rate camera along with a custom-built device called a Touchscope, Agawi measured the App Response Time (ART) of several different smartphones. The ART is the latency experienced between the time a user touches the device display to the device’s on-screen response.

Apple’s iPhone demonstrated a minimum app response time (MART) of 55 milliseconds, a much better performance than the Galaxy S4, which had a MART of 114ms. The Lumia 928 had a similar high MART time of 117ms, and the iPhone 5's closest competitor was the iPhone 4, with a MART of 85. The HTC One and the Moto X had the highest MART times, coming in at 121 and 123ms, respectively.

A7 processor used in iPhone 5s manufactured by Apple's arch-rival Samsung



Following the unveiling of Apple's new flagship iPhone 5s smartphone there was a great deal of speculation as to who would get the job of manufacturing the silicon. While Samsung has manufactured all existing iOS processors, the increasingly vitriolic patent was between the two companies led some to believe that the Cupertino giant would want to distance itself from the South Korean giant.


However, a teardown of the chip carried out by Chipwork in conjunction with iFixit shows that Samsung continues to be Apple's go-to company for processors.


While the hardware might have come from Samsung, the A-series processors uses in iDevices are all based on Apple's reworkings of ARM silicon.

"We have confirmed through early analysis that the device is fabricated at Samsung's Foundry and we will confirm process type and node later today as analysis continues," said a Chipworks spokesperson.

"That being said, we suspect we will see Samsung's 28 nm Hi K metal Gate (HKMG) being used. We have observed this same process in the Samsung Exynos Application processor used in the Galaxy S4. Our engineers will be deprocessing the Apple A7 as soon as they can to confirm this or they can provide different information."

So it seems that while Apple and Samsung are happy to have patent battles that span the globe, the two are also willing to work together on a major component for Apple's flagship product line.

Chipworks has also found the elusive M7 processor which iFixit missed in the initial teardown. The chip was found hiding under a neoprene cover on the mainboard.

BBM for Android and iPhone arrives this weekend

BlackBerry's chat and instant messaging app is finally ready to debut on its fiercest rivals' platforms.

There's little doubt that BBM is BlackBerry's killer app and the feature that has enabled the ailing company to hold onto its core of users, and with the service coming to other smartphones the BlackBerry user community will now be able to have group chats and share missives with their iPhone-wielding friends form Sunday onwards.

The app will make its official debut on the App Store on Sunday, September 22 and Android users will get it a day earlier. It's due to become available for download from Google Play at 7am EDT on Saturday, September 21.

Many consumers would argue, quite rightly, that the messaging app marketplace is already pretty crowded and that BBM is late to the party yet again. But unlike many of its competitors, BBM is secure and encrypted because it uses BlackBerry's private network.

It's also anonymous in that users are identified via their PIN numbers; there's no need to share a phone number or email address in order to have a conversation, which can be with up to 30 other users at once.

And best of all, messages are not confined to text form. BBM supports file sharing too so pictures and voice files can be pushed out to all BBM contacts at once, as can schedules. It also has a couple of social media elements, such as being able to ‘post' thoughts, feelings and status updates and to set up a profile picture.
Interested? Well BBM will only work on Android version 4 onwards (Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean) and for iPhone users it is optimized for iOS6.

BlackBerry Receives Takeover Bid Worth $4.7 Billion or $9/Share

Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. has put together an equity consortium that is seeking to take BlackBerry Ltd. private for $9 (U.S.) a share, a deal valued at about $4.7-billion.

BlackBerry is giving the group six weeks to conduct due diligence, with a final agreement expected by Nov. 4. BlackBerry is able to look for alternative offers in the meantime, but the Fairfax group has a right to match them. Fairfax’s equity partners want to remain anonymous until the due diligence is completed.

“BlackBerry has fallen on hard times recently, but we have every confidence it will be successful again,” Fairfax CEO Prem Watsa said in an interview

Meron akong IP5 (apx 30K) at CM Omega HD 2.0 (9K)

mas gusto ko gamitin ang Cherry Mobile. Masmabilis siya para sa akin at parehas lang naman ang touch response niya compare to IP5

Masmalinaw din rear cam ng CM pero talo siya sa front facing cam

pero im still using iOS6, not sure kung iba performance ng iOS7

that's a mid-range phone dude. as Apple has always been proud to say the iphone is a premier (flagship) phone, therefore, it should only be compared to other flagship android phones. this is the problem of a lot of users - people keep comparing the iphone with mid-range models and sometimes even with entry-level phones. the iphone, of course, will always come out on top when you compare it with a device that wasn't meant to compete with the iphone.
