the US$1B penalty is a small price compared to the profits they made with the sale of the products involved in the case. and Samsung will continue to profit with the sale of S3.

Nobody is buying the IPhone 4S anymore. Everyone doesn't want a jurrasic looking, tiny screened phone and are waiting for the IPhone 5. Funny how Apple increased screen size according to this video purportedly of the IPhone 5. Instead of mantaining screen ratio, they increased the length and retained the width... Unlike the standard 16:9 on all Android devices. And to the apple fanbois, better get rid of your existing connecter devices, Apple decided to come out with a completely different port plug...

In this video we will show you the black and white glass panel, 8-pin dock connector flex cable assembly, and two other flex cables for the iPhone 5. Will Apple officially call the new iPhone the iPhone 5? Of course we don't know, nobody knows but Apple. Now with that said, for the sake of simplicity we are calling it the iPhone 5.

As you can see, the iPhone 5 front glass panel is slightly taller than the current iPhone 4/4S. However, it still remains the same width. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S III, the iPhone 5 will have a smaller display area in both width and height. We're not sure why Apple decided to only make it taller and not wider, but I'm sure Mr. Cook will explain it at the upcoming Apple Event. The other major component is the 8-pin dock connector. It does look like Apple has moved away from their traditional 30-pin dock connector to a new, and much smaller, 8-pin dock connector. It is still unknown if they will provide some type of adapter for those out there with 30-pin dock connector accessories. It will be very interesting to see how Apple handles this issue. It appears that Apple has also removed the liquid contact indicator from the dock connector. The indicator still remains in the headphone jack, so don't think you will get away with dropping your shiny new iPhone 5 in the toilet and trying to return it to the Apple Store because it "mysteriously" won't turn on. This change may have been done because there is no need for two indicators at the bottom of the iPhone 5. In the previous iPhone models, the headphone jack was at the top of the device and the dock connector was at the bottom, so it made since to have one in both. We haven't seen any signs of a liquid contact indicator for the top portion of the iPhone 5 yet. Well that is it for now, but stay tuned because we will continue to update you on parts as they become available.

Samsung didnt lose the shares/stocks. the market value went down. sa mga nag-stocks, tawag nila diyan is paper loss. if long term yung pag trade mo, ok lang yan. sa mga short term traders, big deal yung paper loss sa kanila.

The loss of stocks value is already 7.5% of Samsung entire net worth. and still Hindi pa nagsisimula ang banning ng Samsung products sa US customs and other European countries.

And, if you look at the Korean court case, neither is Apple. As they were found guilty of copying several key Samsung features, as well.

Then again, Apple is made in China.

The move from Apple hints at their desperation to maintain their top spot. This isn't the end of the case, Samsung can appeal, and they probably will.

the S2 is still selling quite well but with the newer S3 already in the market that shouldn't matter too much in the long run. Apple really has nothing on the core google stuff so on the whole Android is safe. couldn't say the same for Apple though. They are the same copy-cats that Samsung is. With Motorola mobile now under google they are seeking to ban the iPhone, iPad, and Macs in the US.

This isn't a simple case as Apple vs Samsung too where only aesthetics were involved.

I knew this day would come. I can’t say that I hoped for it, but in all honesty, it was inevitable. Apple has been very busy lately in doing all it can to ban as many Android devices as it can, and HTC, Samsung, and Motorola have all recently got a small taste of the Apple juice lately. But something has changed: Google now owns Motorola, and aren’t wasting any time in defending their new acquisition, as they are now seeking a sales ban on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers in the US. This time, it’s personal, and contains a twist that could make this particular lawsuit a very dangerous one for Apple.

This is the first case that Google has signed off on in defending their new hardware company, meaning that there’s no more lurking in the background providing support. This is full on Google with their law team directly involved. Thsi isn't Google watching from the sidelines, but instead, they are calling this one play by play. But Google and Motorola were clever, as this isn't a lawsuit that focuses on silly topics such as icons or square shaped tablets.

Google and Motorola are filing patent infringement for non-standard essential patents. To put it simply, Google-rola has filed a case for a patent/patents that courts cannot legally force companies to patent, meaning that if they win this case, Apple could be forced to completely stop using the technology in their devices.
We don’t have confirmation on exactly which Wifi related patent is in question here, but we do know that Motorola attempted to reach licensing agreements with Apple (since 2010), which Apple apparently refused. Motorola stated that:

“We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple’s unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers’ innovations”.

This is a big one for Google and for Apple. This isn’t just an OEM that Apple is dealing with now. This is one of the most powerful (if not THE most powerful) movers and shakers in the world. If this comes to trial, Apple will have its hands full, and might even be forced to rely on Microsoft for backup.
