get a referral... or take the risk... (parang merun ng thread na ganito ang topic)

it is "technically" a hacked system... in my opinion, ang satellite signal is not really a "private" signal kasi broadcasted out "on the air" ito.

so if you are capable to decoding the encrypted signal, I don't see the reason why you can not receive it.

at P8k mura na nga... kasi ang offer dati was P10k.

i have been a DirecTV subscriber here in the US for years now. one thing that's true for any satellite provider (especially since the Florida weather here is very similar to Philippines) - everytime there's a thunderstorm with heavy cloud cover, say goodbye to your signal. tapos pag may typhoon there's a very good chance that you'll be saying bye bye to a very expensive piece of electronic equipment that's now just a very expensive big frisbee :hihihi:

The issue here is maintenance. The downlink code is changed every so often. So, you should be able to keep up with the service provider to be able to continue to watch/hear and enjoy their "open-air transmission". Either you obtain the 'hack codes' through the net or the one who installed your system will provide them to you, typically with a "minimal fee". Indeed, these are for "enthusiasts"

OT: Not sure what are available in Marikina. But here in Paranaque and Las Pinas City area, our Cablelink's rate is only at P495 per month. And, there are a lot of channels to choose from...

I am not an expert here, but I think the dish diameter is matched with the sattelite (power) it is pointing at and your downconverter. You can probably increase it up to a certain diameter, but you cannot increase it as you wish, as it can overload the downconverter.

OT: The dish is shaped as a parabola and contrary to popular beliefs,- it is not the antenna,- it is just a reflector,- concentrating the received signals to its focal point or focus (geometry at work here),- which is the antenna....

Madali lang mag-DIY ng satellite TV.

I've been a subscriber to a sat TV provider for many years. Syempre pataas nang pataas ang monthly bill. Besides having the full package, I've upgraded the box with the PVR function. I decided to stop there and not have HDTV when it came out because my monthly bill would've reached $130/month. HDTV in the UK can only be received thru sat and cable providers ... until recently.

When I learned that there are now Free-To-Air HDTV channels on some European satellites I went out and bought a kit ... a 65cm dish (which is more than enough for my target sat), a quad LNB, an HD sat receiver with 2x CI slots, cable, hardware, compass, and satellite finder/signal meter.

The trick is knowing what you want to watch, what satellite it is on, where the satellite is and whether you can get it or not.

There's a ton of useful data here: http://www.lyngsat.com/

The wife's happy that we can now ditch our subscription and still have HDTV ... she didn't even ask how much it cost.

Me - after a successful DIY - went out and bought another kit. This time a portable "suitcase" setup - a 39cm dish with a suction cup mount and a 12vDC FTA receiver ... now one of my "bare essentials" when going camping. The smaller dish can still receive the satellite broadcasting the most number of UK FTA channels (Astra2).

    ---

*CVT - A better phrase would be "the parabolic reflector is not the active element of the array."

The reflector is an integral part of the array. Without the passive element (the dish), what's going to be left is either a dipole, feedhorn or cassegrain antenna (the active element at the focal point) ... none of which can be called a parabolic antenna on its own.

The same goes with the Yagi-Uda array (commonly known as Yagi). If you take out the passive element/s, it's just a dipole antenna.

    Cheers.

There is nothing you can do for now. Lumipat na kasi yung majority ng channels sa NSS Satellite. Hintay ka lang muna until may maka-crack ng security code ng bagong satellite.

What you can also do is buy a bigger sat dish, LNB (of diff bands), tapos hanap ka ng ibang sats.
