baka naman nasa loob ng Musashi yung Yamashita treasure, Golden Buddha or mga mapa kung san nila tinago lahat ng WW2 treasures nila kaya mas gusto nilang i-raise ito kesa yung Yamato. :naughty2:

    OT:
I think the Bismark was declared to displace less than 50,000 tons to fall within the treaty's limits. but many witnesses argued that it may have exceeded 70,000 tons.

Adm. Yamamoto was killed in 1943, before either of those battleships went to the bottom.

I am sure the Japanese would have preferred to raise the Yamato, it being closer to Japan, and being the lead ship of the class. However, the Yamato blew up after being attacked by hundreds of US carrier planes when she was on her way to Okinawa and now rests in three pieces, making it impossible to raise. The Musashi however, though heavily damaged is still in one piece, making it possible to raise her. The Musashi was the second ship of the Yamato class of battleships. There were a lot of design improvements on the Musashi, better armor and water tight compartments, enabling the Musashi to take on more punishment than the Yamato.

The comments by Senator Legarda are mainly for grand standing. Does she realize how raising the ship would benefit the people in the area in terms of tourism ? Apparently not.

You are right sir. Admiral Kurita commanded the Japanese Navy's central force of the largest naval battle of WW II.

And yes, the death of the American-schooled Yamamoto was major blow to the Japanese Imperial Navy to say the least --they have not won since the Battle of Midway.

During the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Kurita nearly suceeded in stopping the invasion when his fleet reached the escort carriers that were supporting the invasion. The carriers were only protected by a handful of DD destroyers which were no match to heavy cruisers and battleships. The main protective US fast battleships under the command of Adm. Halsey were busy chasing a decoy fleet in the north. What save the Americans from certain defeat was Kurita's sudden withdrawal...Kurita's flagship during the battle was the Yamato.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement. The Battle of Midway was the turning point of the Pacific War, but the US still lost a few naval battles after that.

When was the wreck discovered and who found it?

A good topic really in war colleges. There are far more stories where the Americans won the war "serendipitously".
