No arguments on image quality and clarity. But how good and how bad the image is can be subjective. For personal casual watching, I don't think quality matters much. Especially if it's between watching it on his tiny iPhone vs on the wall. He's not particularly a picture quality connoisseur.

I've been around traditional office and commercial projectors my whole life.... from overheads to LCDs and DLPs. I've fixed a few of them. But no experience with LEDs or lasers.

Ambient light is the least of the problems. The room is fairly dark to begin with, even in broad daylight. He's got drapes over his north-facing windows which are looking out over a covered balcony. It's like a black hole in there.
