Can anyone in the know please recommend a projector or projectors that will satisfy the following:

    1. 4,000-5,000 lumens
    2. Multiple inputs - VGA, DVI and HDMI are required
    3. Reliable and has local support
    4. Reasonably priced (ie. I don't want the "Bentley" model if a "Honda" will do)

    Thanks!

Curiously why such a high brightness of 4000 to 5000 lumens? Are you planning to setup a cinema? Home theater can use DLP projectors with 2500 to 3000 lumens.

Anyway, you are pretty much left with ACER as your choice for "Honda" brand projectors...

Only the top range ACER projector reaches your 4000 lumens requirement.

Sorry, didn't see your reply sooner.

It's for a medium-sized venue for about 250 people with a somewhat strong ambient lighting. The screen is approx. 5x3 meters.

Anyway, already made my recommendation and we're ordering the Epson EB-G5450. It's expensive at about 200k but we realized that the feature set we need were only available on the "Lexus" of models. :D Namely, multiple inputs, remote network management, interchangeable lenses when we need to change venues, etc.

Don't get me started on the "Bentley" models.

Also kindly check the compatibility issues between your projector and laptop. As some projectors won't work on certain laptop manufacturer brand.

Really? Given they connect via the VGA or HMDI port, I assumed they would not have compatibility issues.

At least I haven't encountered such an issue with the laptops and digital projectors I have used through the last few years.

I think that it can happen if the laptop's video settings are out of range of what the projector is capable of displaying. Plug-N-Play OSes like Mac and Windows shouldn't have this issue as it will most likely identify the projector by model and adjust the video accordingly.

But sometimes, the laptop may fail to identify the projector or fail to download the correct driver for it (along with the correct video settings), it will just use what was previously set (which may be out of range). In this case, all the user needs to do is manually change the video settings to the lowest resolution initially (640x480*60Hz) and step up from there.

Exactly. At worst, the laptop just cannot detect the video resolution of the projector or vice versa. All that is needed to be done is to set the laptop and projector to 800x600 and manually shift up to the desired higher resolution.

    Not really a compatibility issue.

I'll check the specific projector and laptop model and brand that have 'compatibility' issues. Maybe you could assess what is causing the problem of non output from the projector.

Wow. I created this thread 12 years ago. Might as well recycle it.

This time, I'm looking for suggestions for my son's bedroom. Instead of a flat screen TV, I am considering a small LED projector with built-in smart TV functions. He can project it to a blank wall opposite his bed. His room is mostly dim throughout the day and practically pitch dark at night, with the lights off. So the projector doesn't need to be very bright. Mounting is not an issue as there is a shelf above his headboard. The only constraint is that, it needs to be reasonably quiet. Being it near where he will be, sana it doesn't make a ton of fan noises.

We might also bring it along when we go camping.

    Any recommendations?

isn't the image quality of the flat screen TV, superior to any projector's?

many years ago, when projectors were still very expensive, we needed video aid in the conference room. well, someone made some computations, inputing items like cost of monitor versus projector, size and quality of image, longevity, etc.
he concluded that getting the largest screen is cheaper and offers superior image, than getting the projector.

In outright brightness and blacklevels the flatscreen still wins but they are the bang for buck option if you wanted a very large screen say 80"+ and with modern lasers and projection sheet tech they have good color and sharpness. they are also now usable in rooms that see some daylight.

I think this is way too expensive. Is there anything under 5k that I can consider? lol... seriously.

No arguments on image quality and clarity. But how good and how bad the image is can be subjective. For personal casual watching, I don't think quality matters much. Especially if it's between watching it on his tiny iPhone vs on the wall. He's not particularly a picture quality connoisseur.

I've been around traditional office and commercial projectors my whole life.... from overheads to LCDs and DLPs. I've fixed a few of them. But no experience with LEDs or lasers.

Ambient light is the least of the problems. The room is fairly dark to begin with, even in broad daylight. He's got drapes over his north-facing windows which are looking out over a covered balcony. It's like a black hole in there.

yung medyo popular low-cost projector brand is Wanbo. I don't own one, but my friend has one. good enough naman for casual viewing. madami na din reviews yung mga local "tech" vloggers hehe

I found that I prefer the picture of a projector. Yes it's not as vibrant or contrasty, but it feels more natural. To my mind it feels closer to looking at the actual scene rather than a recreation of it (relatively speaking of course, since all TVs and projectors are recreations).

So I use a TV + soundbar for regular viewing, and when I want to watch something special I fire up the projector and surround setup.
