hitch ako, for TVs of 36 inches or less, how much ang budget na maganda na? space is not an issue.

Your budget dictates what you can afford. Don't push what you can't swallow. If you will only watch TV, CRT is still the best on the budget. If you want a real home theater, think big. Movies coming from DVD are already widescreen. So a small screen will even be smaller. Widescreen CRT are rare, and usually 2nd hand galing Pier. Once na sira, wala na! Always buy with warranty and be sure you know the service center. Between LCD and Plasma, it is still best to test side by side. Plasma consumes a lot of electricity (42" = 300W) But prices are too close to say the other is cheaper. Yung Sony H-LCD 42" RPTV (rear-projection) is 199K, same price as a 42" Sony EDTV Plasma, which is 190K. Panasonic EDTV Plasma is on sale now at around 150K. A good brand for LCD is Syntax-Kolin. It o yung pricelist.

Ako, I'd recommend you check-out an LCOS TV. IMO it's better than a plasma TV or an LCD TV. One of the issues on plasma is that it spews out radioactive waves (radiation). One of the main drawbacks of LCD TVs is that black colors are not really black: it's dark gray. It also noticable.

LCOS stands for Liquid Crystal On Silicon. LCOS is arguably lighther, clearer, brigther and thinner than plasma TVs or LCD TVs. The resolution of LCOS TV sets is near 3 million pixels. I read somewhere that some LCOS TVs have near 4M pixel total resolution. An LCOS TV is cheaper than a plasma TV or an LCD TV. Some LCOS TV manufacturers here in the Philippines are Sony and Kolin.

If you want a cheaper TV but very-near quality to either plasma or LCD, check-out DLP TVs. Samsung has a very good DLP model. It's cheaper than a plasma TV or an LCD TV. The picture quality of a DLP TV is very, very good. Consider: a DLP TV can go, oh, for about P 150T. For a plasma TV, you might need to add 100T more. Not unless you have very, very sharp vision or a geeky stickler for details, you won't even notice the difference in picture quality.

Mahal talaga. Para kang bumili ng 2nd hand na kotse. These gizmos are for those persons who have money to burn.

I can't imagine myself spending 100T of my hard earned money on a TV set. But for others who are serious A/V hobbyists, the 100T+ is money well-spent.

the plasma gas in plasma TV's needs replacement every 3 or 4 years or so, depending on use. learned this while me and a friend were looking for Plasma TV's when I was still in the states.
